What receiver to use as a pre/pro? (1 Viewer)

I'd like to stay in the $500-600 budget and be able to reroute amplification when I add external stereo-amp.

Any suggestions?

P.S. Just curious what kind of sound I'll get combing bright receiver with warm stereo-amp?

Harman Kardon AVR-520 is highly recommended at about $650; it has amps that can be driven by external sources. The HK AVR-320, another good choice) has less power and preamp outputs only (amps cannot be driven from external sources). The 2 share the same preo-pro sections, with minor differences: only the 520 can decode HDCD.
