Guys who only pierce one ear. It's not 1983 and you are not a pirate. Do both or none at all. Go hard or go home! :D

The current fad among speakers of English to preface a remark with "that said" or "that being said" or "having said that."

The misuse of the word "analagous."

Britney Spears.

Madonna.

Michael Jackson.

Although I do not mind the piercing craze (do not have any myself, I'm into the tattoos) The tongue peiercing fad should end just for health reasons. The place I get my tattos done also does peircing, I cant count how many times I've seen somebody come in with a swollen, infected tongue wondering what to do. It's to the point that our piercer wont do tongue piercings for the public. He'll only do it for personel friends who already have peircings and know how to take care of them.

The problem is, people don't follow instructions. My ex got a nipple piercing and was told to clean it with iodine regularly for 6 weeks minimum. Of course, after two or three, because it looked healed, he stopped and, of course, it became infected.

I personally have never had a problem with a body piercing, including my tongue.

Fads I'd like to see die out:
soldier.gif

Non-OAR video
Restorations of films being a neat event (It shouldn't be rare for restorations of film to occur. We should be seeing the studios put more money into restoration and preservation than into making new movies.)
Emails pointing to financial, porn, and virus sites. I don't want any junk mail!!!
Product placement in movies and TV shows.
Those awful Pepsi ads with that creepy girl. Most people see a little girl...I see evil incarnate.

I'd really like to see those damn Abercrombie or whatever brand visors die out! Mainly because of how people wear them. Upside down and backwords????? Hello?! What's your major malfunction?????

I have to second, or third, the loud, huge exhausts people put on their imports! Sounds like bumble-bees on steroids!!

Rain, don't knock 1983. I was born in that year!

Anyway, the following fads and customs are ones which I think we'd be better off without:

Boy bands

Teen-slut-pop

Heavy metal

gangsta rap

MTV

the word "dude"

the word "like" used arbitrarily in sentences

fast food (except maybe Subway)

hate

the relevance of political parties

political action committees

young men listening to rap with the volume and bass level turned way up so people outside the car can hear it

pan and scan

the editing of vintage TV shows in reruns to sell more commercial time

advertising to children under 13

movies aimed at sub-retarded adolescents

smoking

"reality" television

unfunny, unwatchable sitcoms about whining yuppies living in New York apartments they can't afford

Jerry Bruckheimer being legally employable

unreadable magazines that do nothing but kiss celebrities' butts

planned suburban neighborhoods where each house is virtually identical

kids wearing their pants below their butt-cracks, exposing their underwear

little girls wearing t-shirts that don't cover their midriffs

I would love to see the boy band fad become 'uncool' again. Haven't we learned from our mistakes? :D
Tattoos
Body piercing, anything other than a single earring per ear on women only!
IF you mean as a mainstream cultural fad then I think I get your gist, but if you are implying this stop altogether... tattoos and body piercing (even on men, gasp) is nothing new.
Had I not had the cultural 'signposts,' I may not have pulled the idea of piercing a part of my body out of nowhere, but I enjoyed the initial ear piercing so much that I just couldn't stop. It is a pleasurable experience to get tattooed and pierced for me, and I may acknowledge it as a fad but my reasons for doing it are very very personal.
:D
Cheers,
Joseph

Nicely put, Joseph. I feel exactly the same way.

It's a personal thing and I don't understand why my tattoos or piercings should be of concern to or bother anyone else, unless I'm intimately involved with them.

The tongue peiercing fad should end just for health reasons.
during a visit to a specialist, the doc saw my pierced nipple and asked if i had my tongue pierced. when i said "no", he recommended against having it done, as it is fairly common for the jewelry to come out and be swallowed. then it is his job to remove it from the persons colon, where it usually becomes lodged. apparantly, he has had to do this several times.

It should be noted that when one disses the tattoo/piercing phenomenon, he or she runs the risk of offending someone else. Here in L.A.--especially in the Melrose District--a person almost stands out if he or she isn't pierced.

So, seeing as how many posting in this thread are of the tattoo/piercing mindset/subculture, let's please bear that in mind.

Now, now, Jack, relax. We are all playing nice.
Personally I would like to see the trend of people not getting pierced or tattooed die out.
In fact, at this time, I would like to coin a new term for those kind of people. Let's call them "Cleanskins."
Ok, in case you can't tell, ya I'm trying to be funny. :D
