Hey all,
First let me say I love classic (some say cheese)horror and sci-fi. Anything pre-70. I know there is a ton of unreleased stuff on DVD. What are some glaring missing titles that I can find on Laser Disc. King Kong is coming so that doesn't qualify.

I can think of The Amazing Colossal Man, and War of the Colossal Beast. I know there are tons more. Additionally are any titles released on DVD wrong, i.e. aspect ration, etc...

Thanks,
Todd

ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS! I know the star, and he is such a nice guy, and this film is one of my favorites!

Does THE KEEP count as a sci-fi?

This Island Earth & The Incredible Shrinking Man instantly come to mind.

Tarantula is another and how about The Monolith Monsters - not sure if these are/have been available on Laser disc.

CRACK IN THE WORLD (1965)
DAMNATION ALLEY (1970)
QUARTERMASS AND THE PIT (1967) This was also known as Five Million Years to Earth.

I personally don't know what is and is not available on LD but...
You've got a good selection going right now. Check the bargain "bins" of DVDPlanet, DeepDiscount, etc. The "bad" (cheesy) monster/scifi sometimes show up there.

The correct name would be :
"Robinson Crusoe on Mars".

I'd really love to lay my hands on this gem from the past - plus Tarantula (1955) and Phase IV (1974).

This Island Earth was on DVD...i have it, but it is out of print. I own Night of the Creeps on LD, but it isn't on DVD. I have a few anime titles on LD that are not on DVD. I would love to see Robot Carnival on DVD.

The American LD of Robot Carnival is awful, though. The picture quality leaves a lot to be desired, and it seems to be partly cropped and partly open-matte. On the other hand, while a couple of the segments are pretty good, I have to say the film as a whole strikes me as a little better than indifferent. [I feel the same way about Heavy Metal; maybe the anthology thing just turns me off?]
If you want to talk about anime, or even SF anime, not on R1 DVD, though, I've got some real wierdies.

The LsserDisc Database [see my sig] is pretty good for locating whether a title is out there on LD or not.

There were 2 very cool box sets released by Universal. The Golden Age of Science Fiction Thrillers which contained 4 movies on 3 discs (5 sides): It Came from Outer Space, Tarantulu, The Mole People, and The Deadly Mantis. The other set was The Golden Age of Science Fiction Thrillers Vol. II which contained: The Land Unknown, Monster on Campus, Monolith Monsters, and The Leech Woman.

I was very happy to acquire both these excellent sets, but want tons more!!!

Darren,

My bad, I was in a hurry (my day job beckoned) when I composed that list; I meant to type THE MAD GHOUL (1943), rather than THE GHOUL (1933, which I own on DVD). I've updated my list accordingly.
