My 2 oldest granddaughters (ages 12 & 8) asked for so I've played:
This weekend Spotify, I believe, played a "listener's best of The Beatles" and the 12yo was devastated that "Hey Jude" wasn't #1 (it was #2 - "A Day in the Life" was #1). That's her absolutely favorite Beatles song. The 8yo prefers "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." Me? It's easier to provide a list of the songs I'm not so hot about - and that's a very short list.
I don't know if I'm just too tuned out, but I've been noticing that millennials don't seem to have any "rockstars" (or "popstars") they're looking up to. Basically in the sense of they don't see rockstars/popstars as "larger than life", and music is just "background noise" that is nothing special.
I see this in my younger relatives and their friends.
The only millennials who even care about music, seem to be the hardcore musician nerd types who actually play (or write) their own musical instruments. Otherwise it seems to be music doesn't have any gravitas anymore for young people. (For lack of a better description).
