The Adventures of Robin Hood (comparison shop again) The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (expecting to buy this for certain) The Aviator Batman Begins (already have HD-DVD) Batman Anime (depends) The Brave One (depends on film) Casablanca (comparison shop) Clash of the Titans (also great news) The Dark Knight (I assume I'll get this) The Goonies (yes!) Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (any HPs) Heat (HD-DVD only) - if I could get any one film on this list... I Am Legend (depends on film) Justice League: The New Frontier (great news!) L.A. Confidential (one of my favorites) Poltergeist (probably) Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (maybe) The Shawshank Redemption (probably) Speed Racer (depends on the 2008 film) Superman Doomsday (probably) The Ultimate Matrix Trilogy (already have HD-DVD) V for Vendetta (already have HD-DVD) The Wizard of Oz (maybe)
Heat is the BIG DEAL for me. Along with some other "almost as big" deals.
The Adventures of Robin Hood (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD) The Aviator Bonnie and Clyde Caddyshack (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD) Casablanca (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD) The Cincinnati Kid Cool Hand Luke Falling Down Grand Prix (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD) Mutiny on the Bounty (Blu-ray - already out on HD-DVD) Poltergeist That's Entertainment Trilogy Giftset The Wizard of Oz
To my recollection, Warner hasn't let me down yet, except for Rio Bravo. But that's understandable due to the film's age. Since Heat was made in 1995, it HAS to look better than say Bullitt or Dog Day Afternoon.
Holy crap! I hope this isn't all coming out in Q4!? Because I'm down for:
Aviator, The Batman (1989) Bonnie and Clyde Clash of the Titans - I can't believe this is coming out on HD! AWESOME! Cool Hand Luke Dark Knight Dirty Harry Exorcist, The Harry Potter (All of them being sold seperate) Heat L.A. Confidential Poltergeist Shawshank Redemption, The Superman II (Theatrical) The Wizard of Oz
Clash Of The Titans is getting remade, so I'm not too surprised to see that one mentioned- though I don't think it is going to actually show up anytime soon. The Exorcist has an anniversary next year, so that isn't much of a surprise either. As are the Dirty Harry movies since they were mentioned last year (to tie-in with a video game release iirc). Bonnie & Clyde, Cool Hand Luke both previously mentioned (and B&C is derived from a 4K transfer as is Blade Runner- not sure about CHL, but that one probably is too).
The only real suprises for me in that list are -The Goonies (didn't realize this as popular as it was) -A Little Princess (totally out of left field, but very happy to see it mentioned- this should look great if they give it a new transfer. iirc the old one is pre 2000) -Cincinatti Kid (probably one of the last pre 1970 movies I would have expected )
Equally baffling are no mentions of -Arthur (they said a new transfer had been made back in 2006...what are they waiting for with this one?) -Contact (looks like they are going to miss the 10th Anniversary- big disappointment) -How The West Was Won (supposed to be getting a new SE next year, seems odd they wouldn't pencil it in)
Speaking of baffling.... where's the two "Grumpy Old Men" Widescreen editions that Warner promissed us almost two years ago? It shouldn't take an eternity and then some just to release two films on DVD/HD-DVD/Bluray/etc.
At this rate I might as well just give up any hope of either one of them getting the OAR treatment on any format outside of Laserdisc. Because all I hear is a lot of hot air out of Warner on these two but no release in sight.
Guys, hard to believe nobody mentioned Appleseed "Ex Machina", clearly the 2004 version, and this one is clearly one to be drooled over. The WB/DC stuff are stick figures compared to this. I saw this in the theaters a few years ago, and I think you're going to be pleasantly suprised.
My Warner BD/HD catalog wishlist is mostly pre-70's (and a lot of B&W ) so I don't have much hope for a release unless these formats suddenly catch on with more than a handful of film afficianado's.
Excluding what's listed on Warners Website:
1990's True Romance Contact The Iron Giant JFK Interview with the Vampire Batman Returns
1980's Once Upon a Time in America The Right Stuff The Big Red One Gremlins Innerspace Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
1970's Get Carter (1971) The Man Who Would Be King The Wind and the Lion One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Mean Streets Kellys Heroes McCabe and Mrs Miller The Outlaw Josey Wales Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
1960's Point Blank The Haunting (1963) The Time Machine Village of the Damned Seven Days in May Where Eagles Dare Ride the High Country Dracula Has Risen From the Grave Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
1950's Ben-Hur (1959) Horror of Dracula Curse of Frankenstein The Mummy (1959) THEM! The Thing From Another World Bad Day at Black Rock Dial M For Murder North By Northwest Strangers on a Train The Narrow Margain (1952) Asphault Jungle The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms The Naked Spur
1940's Treasure of the Sierra Madre Maltese Falcon The Big Sleep Out of the Past White Heat To Have and Have Not The Sea Hawk Gun Crazy High Sierra Key Largo Muder My Sweet The Set-Up The Cat People (1942) I Walked with a Zombie She Wore a Yellow Ribbon They Died With Their Boots On Fort Apache
1930's Captain Blood Mutiney on the Bounty (1935) King Kong (1933) Gone With the Wind I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang Little Ceasar Public Enemy The Roaring Twenties Angels With Dirty Faces Dr Jeckyl and Mr Hyde (1931) Freaks The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) Stagecoach
I know some of these older titles probably need restoration and some like Kong are missing film elements so it's just a pipe dream.
King Kong (1933) would actually be fairly easy to put on HD, as they already have it ready to go due to the prep work that went into the SE DVD that came out in 2005.
also wish Funny Farm would get the OAR treatment :frowning:
anyhow on this list I'll be getting
Batman (1989) The Cincinnati Kid Clash of the Titans The Dead Pool Dirty Harry The Enforcer Eraser (HD-DVD only) The Goonies L.A. Confidential Poltergeist Sudden Impact Superman II (Theatrical)
but where oh where is Beetlejuice? I swear this movie continues to be ignored , not only needs to be on HD DVD but needs lots of quality features
Warner, do you realize all the Blu-Ray owners you're leaving out in the cold with this one? I mean, of the 6,000,000 installed base of PS3s on the planet, 5,999,999 bought the PS3 only as a Blu-Ray player (until some decent games come out), and these guys are right in line with the demographics for Heat
