It seems DVDenfrancais.com has obtained the spring R1 slate from Fox! Click above for more info.
All I can say is...at last!
It does seem entirely legit, although I'm confused about the listing of From Hell having an audio commentary. From what I heard, the Hughes Brothers declined (wasn't there an interview about this?)

Oh yeah, I want this one. But I'm so confused - this is a Fox title?

I noticed that MGM is releasing Scorcese's "New York New York" in at least one region in May. Who controls "After Hours" I wonder?

After Hours & Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore are Warner titles.
As for the King of Comedy, my fingers are crossed and I'm waiting with bated breath (I shouldn't have eaten all those bates:))

Yup, this is definitely good news if it pans out. Between this, The Last Waltz Special Edition and a possible Raging Bull SE, looks like a great year for Scorsese fans!

I' go nuts if this is true along with that release date (my birthday!) DVDenfrancais.com is pretty clued in when it comes to announcements.

When is Raging Bull: SE due out?
Well MGM put the SE out on R2 ages ago now, I'm hoping the time it's taking for the domestic R1 is to improve upon supplements and give it an anmorphic transfer. If only they'd just let criterion put out a DVD version of their laserdisc boxed release.

Yeah! This will be, if I'm not mistaken, the first widescreen edition on a home format!

If they're R1 and anamorphic,

Raging Bull: SE = Instant Purchase

Goodfellas re-issue = Instant Purchase

Mean Streets re-issue = Instant Purchase

If the King of Comedy and Last Waltz rumors are true = Instant Purchase.

In my opinion, Scorsese's best films have received the "worst" treatment on DVD.

The Last Waltz is not a rumour, it has been announced.

This is correct news.
When I wrote up my BEST OF 2001 summary,
I told all of you that Fox had something special
up their sleeves for all of us and that it is
another studio's product.
Fox has been quietly working on The King
of Comedy for some time. I could not mention
this news until someone else brought it up.
Nice to see that we are nearing a release date.

Well, this news just made my day! I would have been satisfied with a bare-bones version of this great movie, so the extras are gravy.

Can't wait!

Thanks for the confirmation, Ron. This is one of my favorite all-time comedies, probably because it's just as creepy as it is funny. When people are speaking of Scorsese, this film often gets overlooked by people who dwell on his "heavy" films (i.e. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, etc.). However, The King of Comedy is definitely one of his greatest, IMHO.

I'll second that. Give me a clean anamorphic transfer and I'll be a happy camper.
