This is one of my personal favorites

as well.

I had quite a look of surprise on my face

when I was told last year that Fox was working

on this title.

I knew forum members had been asking about it.

It's always curious to know how one studio's

product ends up in the hands of another. This

Columbia title ended up at Fox. Universal just

released a slew of "Road" movies that sport the

Paramount logo.

Nonetheless, I couldn't be happier that Fox

is the studio releasing this film. If I remeber

the conversation correctly, this disc will have

a nice load of extras on it.

Ron, I'm thanking the DVD-gods that Fox has the rights to this title. I know Fox will take care of this title the way it deserves.

It's about time!!! Thank God!
Now, if they would only release Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, After Hours, a SE of Goodfellas, a SE of Raging Bull......
BTW, does anyone else think that Mark looks like Rupert Pupkin???

Ron,

Will you review this one, or does it fall under the new "No more Fox titles" rule?

If I'm not mistaken, KING OF COMEDY was released theatrically, in the U.S., by Fox. So in a roundabout way, it's been Fox's all along. I do not think there are many other titles that have appeared under so many major studios' banners, on video.

What happened is that THE KING OF COMEDY was independently financed by Arnon Milchan, it was his first movie venture. So Fox released it to theatres, but back then did not have any other rights to it. Milchan licensed it to Columbia initially for home video.

Years later, when Milchan established his Regency Enterprises company, they were housed at Warner Bros., making films like A TIME TO KILL, L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, and NATURAL BORN KILLERS. So when Columbia's option lapsed, it was a natural move for Warner Bros. to rerelease the title on video.

Now, Regency Enterprises is at Fox, making stuff like FIGHT CLUB. So again, part of the housekeeping deal involves Fox handling the DVD of this wholly-owned Milchan production. While I feel a small twinge of anal-retentive wistfulness (I kinda liked having so many Scorsese movies under one studio roof) that Fox is doing this and not Warner, WB's incredible sluggishness in getting Scorsese on disc is not a good thing. So Fox's entry into the Scorsese business is very very welcome.

The rumour that Warner has a 'Scorsese Collection' in the works (similar to their Kubrick/Oliver Stone boxes) is enough to make me hold off on this title for the moment. I'm not going to buy it twice.

Well, considering it's May 2 and we've heard nothing for the longest time and nobody has cover art posted (Amazon doesn't even list a release date), it's obviously not coming out on May 14 if at all.

I'd be very interested to know what's going on with it.

OK here's the deal.

We've been working on this release for months now, and have all the additional material ready and finished, with the exception of the commentary tracks.

We are still trying to get all involved together for the recording but some current film projects keep getting in our way.

May 14th is not happening, but when it is released it will be done properly.

Thanks for your interest,

Peter Staddon

Thank you for the information, Mr. Staddon. Sounds like the people at Fox are going to do this one right, so it should definitely be worth the wait!

The anticipation is gonna kill me though!

If it means a better presentation, I can be patient.
I'm just happy to know it's still on the slate. :emoji_thumbsup:

Looking forward to the King of Comedy release by the way, and it's nice to know you're working hard on doing it right.
