As most here probably know: 2.35:1 is the wrong aspect ratio for an Ultra Panavision film. There's also no indication what the audio format's going to be (hopefully something which mimics the original multi-channel "Cinerama" release.
Even in 2.35:1 aspect ratio it will be one of the most massive upgrades ever compared to that old DVD master used for the previous Blu-ray. An improved audio format would be nice but in any case even the 91 laserdisc had Dolby Surround so we will get something better than a mono track..

Lets hope that Kino is aware of Olive's Blu-ray issues and will have them corrected on this December 13th release.

Coming December 13th!

The Hallelujah Trail (1965)

• HD Master by MGM – From a 2K Scan of the 35mm Reduction Inter-positive
• NEW Audio Commentary by Filmmaker/Historian Michael Schlesinger and Author/Screenwriter C. Courtney Joyner
• Includes the Roadshow Overture, Intermission, Entr'acte and Exit Music
• Theatrical Trailer (Newly Mastered in 2K)
• Optional English Subtitles
Color 156 Minutes 2.35:1 Not Rated

From legendary director John Sturges (Bad Day at Black Rock, Last Train from Gun Hill, The Great Escape) comes this rip-roaring western comedy about the year Denver was nearly devastated by a drought—of whiskey—and had to have forty wagonloads imported through very harsh—and very thirsty—territory! Screen greats Burt Lancaster (Gunfight at the O.K. Corral), Martin Landau (North by Northwest) and Lee Remick (Days of Wine and Roses) star in this spry, sprawling and spirited adventure that “wins both laughs and thrills” (The Hollywood Reporter)! Also starring Jim Hutton (Major Dundee), Pamela Tiffin (One, Two, Three), Donald Pleasence (Soldier Blue) and Brian Keith (The Rare Breed), with epic Ultra Panavision 70 photography by Robert Surtees (Ben-Hur) and a rousing score by Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven), this irreverent and literally dry look at frontier life is “possibly the funniest western ever made” (Los Angeles Times)!

The Blu-ray cover looks like it came from the UK movie poster. Just cropped on the sides like the 35mm vs 70mm.

That's interesting. Probably same transfer as the old DVD? Would be cool if it's the full 2.76:1 AR and 5.1 sound from original 6-tracks but I doubt it.
Happy that Hallelujah Trail in Blu ray is being released will be even happier if they included a Smilebox version as well. There is someone out there "in70mm" has been uploading Smilebox trailers for :
Battle of the Bulge
Ice Station Zebra
Khartoum and
Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
all on the YouTube channel I don't known if Dave Strohmaier is involved.

Hallelujah Trail from Kino will be 2.35 not the full 2.76 AR. Doesn't make sense to Smilebox it since you are missing almost 25% of the original image. You are seeing about 2.1 of the 2.76 since the 2.35 is zoomed in.

I'm assuming the Blu-ray will be similar to the HDNET broadcast which was first shown in 2020. The Kino-Lorber Insider posted "The Hallelujah Trail transfer looks very good and was around 2019 or 2020."

DVD which some think it came from 70mm since it has a 2.2 AR

HDNET broadcast is 2.35 which is cropped on the top, bottom and the left side compared to the DVD.

As I've said elsewhere (and on the track), mastering from 65mm elements would be cost-prohibitive for a minor title like THT. And all directors and DPs knew that eventually their films would be reduced to 2.35 for showing in "normal" cinemas and made allowances for cropping, be it 2.2:1 or 2.76:1.

There was no third option for THT: it was either 2.35 or nothing. The transfer looks fine.

My non anamorphic, poor quality " The Hallelujah Trail" on iTunes runs 155 minutes with the overture. View attachment 43615
Same as the 1991 US/1996 JP LDs [the 2001 DVD have no Roadshow Titles]

The thing that not a lot everybody know because if you are stupid, is that the "Exit Music" is tracked from the Overture.

That is why the running time on the version we have today is 156 min.

Also, "The Alamo (1960) has a music number tracked (from earlier "Green Leaves of Summer" (number ends at around the "Not thinkin' just rememberin" shot) same version also heard on the LP Version)

The Alamo Running Time = 202 [199 min] (1992 VHS LD/1997 AC-3 [with continuous music after first deleted scene with dissolve ('92 mix changes back to the general release mix)])

Running Time breakdowns:

1991/1996 JP [I own one] LDs/2001/2002 DVDs/2018 Olive BD [Same Master as shown on Netflix back in 2010]/2022 Kino Lorber BD = 152/3 min (legitmate for General Release Version) [without tracked 3 min Overture layed over the Exit Music] Total = 156 min
1991 Hi-Fi Extended VHS Version (Pan & Scan) [Has better AQ on Entr'acte when compared to the French Track on 2001 DVD] = 156 min (legitmate running time for Extended) [without tracked 3 min Overture layed over the Exit Music] Total = 159 min

More to follow...
