I definitely think the main problem here is the fact that the studio failed to let us know about the re-framing (and scene cutting) before we bought.

While it's true colorization has mostly fallen out of fashion, it has not disappeared. Recently, the first and second seasons of BEWITCHED and the first season of I DREAM OF JEANNIE have been colorized and begun airing on US TV.
