I've tried to ask this question before but I think I may have created some confusion: If I use the Dolby Digital decoder in my DVD player and connect it to my receiver's 5.1 analog inputs, which test tones do I use to calibrate and at what level should they be at? If I use the test tones in the DVD player, should the channel levels be on the receiver be at 0dB and then adjust the DVD player levels or vice versa?

First, if you have the ability, use a digital connection, as the receiver almost always is better at doing this.

You should adjust the receiver's settings rather than the player's settings, because the player's settings only effective when you are using that source.
