Fantastic watch. Thank you, Conor, for providing that clip.

Daniels was born to play John Adams. Interesting to see the stage actors who went on to reprise their roles in the film version. Howard Da Silva was not playing Ben Franklin in the stage version here.

For some reason he was indisposed. Rex Everhardt stood in for him and even recorded Franklin on the Original Cast Album.

He had had a heart attack. Thank goodness he was recovered to do the film and record his Benjamin Franklin which is the version I always want to hear when I listen to this score.

This is from nearly two years into the run by which point a number of original cast members (Da Silva, Ken Howard) had left the show. John Cullum actually came on as Rutledge during the run, replacing Clifford David.

Da Silva came back, as did Betty Buckley, after she completed her run in the London production of PROMISES, PROMISES. Not sure if he did, but she stayed until it closed.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Yes, this aired October 1970, 21 months after opening on Broadway. A few other actors from the original cast who returned for the movie are also missing at this point. David Ford (Hancock), Jonathan Moore (Lyman Hall), and Ken Howard (Jefferson). The replacement actor playing Jefferson came from the National Touring company.

Charles Rule (Joseph Hewes originator) has changed over to Samuel Chase of Maryland. Certainly a meatier role than Rutledge's puppet.

Is that Rex Everheart as Franklin? After temporarily taking over from DaSilva in March 1969 (and the cast album), Everheart joined the National Touring company.
