I doubt it will change anything
Sony does not intend to prevent Square from contributing games to rival game makers such as Nintendo or Microsoft, a Sony spokeswoman said.
"We are not necessarily obligated to Sony because of this deal," said Hisashi Suzuki, Square president. "But we can gauge the situation in the future and offer software to the best-selling hardware maker. And at this time, there is no doubt that Sony is the best.''

Square still needs to make money, and they aren't right now making exclusive titles for Sony.
There has been investing of rival console manufacturers before without any noticeable difference in the way things happened.
Sony practically owned Psygnosis, which didn't stop them from making Wipeout for Saturn.
We'll see what they announce later this week.

Sony are being quite cute with this, on the one hand they can if they want put pressure on Square not to release certain titles for other consoles but also if Square does release on Gamecube & XBox and starts to see a profit again then Sony will get some of that profit.
If they can keep the PS2 as the best selling machine but also profit from software on the others then they are in a bloody good position.

True... Different era though. And Sony eventually wiped out most of Psygnosis, ditching studios left right & centre, and eventually wiping out the brand completely.
I think in this case, it's going to be a definite influence on where certain key brands go...

Hmmmm, CoreMagazine have posted an interview with Square, one question you just knew they'd ask:
Question: Some people have expressed concern that Square will back away from possible development on Xbox, GameCube or Game Boy Advance as a result of Sony's investment. Can you shed some light on that?
Square: We plan to continue pursuing Game Boy Advance development. As for the GameCube or Xbox, we have no plans to support either one at this point. Our business model is to support the best selling platform, so our focus is firmly on the PlayStation 2.

LOL. They also said they'd 're-evaluate' their support of the WonderSwan & planned support of the GBA if Sony announced a handheld machine.
Yeah, they're not Sony's bitches now at all.
