Thought ya'll might be interested in this press release:
No down-sampling on Component output. Excellent.
WoW That has got to help. Good luck, HD-DVD, in matching that!
Uncompressed multi channel audio and 1080p......mmmmmmmmm
It's not detailed in the press release, but I'm sure that titles that have the down-res flag set will still be downresed...but of course the *player* is capable of up to 1080I if the software flag allows it. So far both Sony, Disney and Fox have said that all their Blu-ray titles will not use downresing (not a promise for forever, but initially for sure).
We can pre-order it... but when will it actually ships? (no, the 'scheduled' release date does not count) Also what is the final 'street price' for the player? Gotta love the vagueness of that piece of statements from Sony.
According to SonyStyle and Best Buy, $999.99.
I e mailed Tweeter about two weeks ago...and they said July/August and 999.00 for the Sony....so apparently they already had accurate info. They said June for the Pioneer Elite and 1500.00 as opposed to the 1800.00 we had been seeing, and 5-23 and 999.00 for the Samsung.
