I am looking for a good match for my Denon Receiver -- an older model (I think AVR 1602) -- which puts out 65W up front. Would really like to match it with floorstanding speakers. My budget would be under $500 (hopefully). I have been looking at Athena AS-F2, as well as the entry models for Swan and Axiom. Any suggestions?

No real need to match a certain brand of speaker up with a certain brand of receiver. Your Denon will work fine with any of the speakers you listed, don't worry about it.

The brands you listed are all popular ones, should word out fine whatever you end up with. You might consider going with bookshelves for now and adding a sub later for better overall performance on a buget.
