Parasound Owners, I have some Questions (1 Viewer)

I currently have 4 HCA-1000A's. I am running them in a complicated configuration using one amp for L front and surr, one amp for R front and surr, one amp for center and one amp for L/R rears. I did this to minimize crosstalk for 2-channel listening. I have Onix Ref 1 bookshelfs all around and an Onix Ref 100 center. They are 4ohm speakers at 88db sens. and not really a difficult load. I run them full range for 2-channel and multichannel music and cross them over for HT. Anyway I am soliciting input on an upgrade. I have an opportunity to get a great deal on a HCA-2003 for the fronts and I am wondering if it will be worth it. I could sell 2 of my 1000A's and have the money but I do not know if it is worth my trouble. I just want all the Parasound owners out there to tell me if the 2003 sounds significantly better than the 1000A. I know it has more power but in my system that probably won't matter too much. Thanks for the input and if there are any other suggestions let me know.

Are you sure,4 ohm load at 88db's sens. This sounds like it would need more power.I have Klipsch rf7 102db sens,I use a Parasound 1205a(140x5),its enough but more is better.

Eric,
I used to run a similar configuration. I upgraded to a HCA 2003A and never looked back. The 2003A really allowed my NHT 2.5(86db, 6ohm) speakers to shine. I do not notice any problem with cross talk between the channels. Are you looking at the 2003 or 2003A?

The 2003 and 2003A are identical except for the added 12v trigger on the latter.

Parasound conservatively listed the power ratings when the 2003 made it's debut and upgraded the specifications when the 2003A was released.

John,
Thanks for the info. I was unaware that they were the same. I assume that you got this information from Parasound? Is the same true in regards to the HCA-1000 and 1000A?

Jerry,

Yes, I received this information from Parasound when I purchased a used HCA-2003 and inquired about the differences.

I don't know about the HCA-1000/HCA-1000A but I assume they would be the same.

John
