Forgive this Albuquerquian's excitement, who is late in the game because he lives in a small TV market, but I have finally seen the future of television(in my own city), and its name is HDTV.
Thank you PBS(channel 5 KNME)for being the first to broadcast HDTV in Albuquerque.
Thank you NBC(channel 4 KOB)for broadcasting the Olympics in HDTV.
No thank you CBS(channel 13 KNME)for having the ability to broadcast HDTV, but not doing so because you think it is cost prohibitive in the current market.

NBC has started showing K90 Ski Jumping earlier than scheduled. I started watching at 9:30AM PST instead of noon. So if you haven't switched on the TV, do it now cause man oh man is it pretty.

The HD images and 5.1 sound are super. They look and sound spectacular but please give us Bob Costas and company!

The announcers on the HD broadcasts are just plain awful.

No kidding. I just finished the Avia on my relatively new Mitsubishi HDTV just in time for the pair skating and it was a new experience. I hadn't planned to watch much of the Olympics, but now may.

We're only getting DD2.0 sound here in Detroit, but the video is spectacular. The clear blue sky at the Nordic combined ski jumping provided a great background for the video at this event.

Equipment: Toshiba 56H80 monitor and Samsung SIR-T150 tuner.

Unfortunately, the HD broadcast will not include snowboarding events, Alpine events (downhill, slalom), bobsled/luge events. Only coverage will be for speed skating/short track, figure skating, ski jumping, and hockey competitions.

Gary,
Yours is the second reference I have seen to an NBC Olympics HD Schedule. However, when I visit the link, I am completely unable to find the HD listing. Only the regular NTSC listing.
Help! :)
Thanks,
Mark

Here is a letter I saw on another forum about the HD schedule.

Dear HD fans,

KGW will carry NBC's special HD coverage of the Olympics starting Saturday,

February 9 at noon Pacific time on KGW-DT 8.1!

Below are all the cool details.

The HD (High Definition) prior day coverage of the 2002 Winter Olympics

consists of one program block of first-run event coverage repeated in each

24-hour period. The "broadcast day" will begin at NOON PACIFIC TIME.

Most days will consist of an eight-hour block of programming with two

repeats. There are some exceptions, which are listed at the end of this

note.

The HD service will be a separate production with different commentators,

program format and commercial structure from the SD (Standard Definition)

coverage. John Dockery and Todd Harris will provide commentary for the HD

coverage of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

In addition to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the following events

will be covered in the HD service:

Speed Skating, Short Track Speed Skating, Figure Skating, Hockey,

and Ski Jumping.

Specific event schedules will be advised shortly.

The HD service will commence at NOON Pacific time on Saturday February 9th

with coverage of the Opening Ceremonies and Ski Jumping. Coverage of Mens

Gold Medal Hockey and the Closing Ceremonies begins at NOON Pacific time

Monday February 25th.

All first-run program blocks will be eight hours long repeated twice, with

the following exceptions:

Saturday 2/9 4 hours repeated 5 times

Monday 2/11 6 hours repeated 3 times

Monday 2/18 6 hours repeated 3 times

Sunday 2/24 6 hours repeated 3 times

Monday 2/25 4 hours repeated 5 times

Brenda Buratti

Even on the good ole standard cable, this broadcast is great. I just recently got a new TV, so I'm really enjoying this. This is the cleanest presentation I've seen in a long time... you can make out the cameraman in the reflection from the luge riders' helmets. :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup: for NBC!
