One thing I wasn't sure about from watching the rollout video is whether you need the AppleTV box to connect to an HDTV. Do you?
The old hdmi plug works fine or you can use any airplay enabled device.Edwin-S said:One thing I wasn't sure about from watching the rollout video is whether you need the AppleTV box to connect to an HDTV. Do you?
Ok, sure but there are external USB 3.0 sticks. There are apps that you may want to store on an external drive. The "cloud" may not be available everywhere you go, so the higher access speed of USB 3.0 would have been nice for external storage.Sam Posten said:There are no usb3 macs.
Ok, that's good to know. Thanks.Sam Posten said:The old hdmi plug works fine or you can use any airplay enabled device.
Probably won't matter anyway since they're not putting a USB host adapter in these things. You won't be able to use your flash drive w/ it anyway unless you're also gonna use some sort of external host adapter to facilitate the file transfers.Edwin-S said:Ok, sure but there are external USB 3.0 sticks. Wasn't clear you could use a Verizon iPad domestically with an AT&T sim.Keith Plucker said:
Maybe I am missing something, but doesn't Apple basically state this on the iPad page. I don't understand all the hoopla about this.

Little silver outside little szech, on a Verizon LTE iPad.Ronald Epstein said:Sam,
Where exactly are you getting those download speeds and with what?
Errmm...Once a year is too frequent? ...You'd prefer Apple wait two years between iPad releases?Originally Posted by Edwin-S /t/319090/official-new-ipad-3rd-generation-announcement-thread/150#post_3907471
The other thing that keeps me back is the fact that Apple seems to be releasing these tablets on a shortened time table which obsoletes a 1000 dollar piece of equipment pretty fast.
Well, yes. I'd like these companies to engineer enough features and power into a device to get a 2 or 3 year life cycle out of it before it turns into electronic landfill due to obsolescence.DaveF said:Errmm...Once a year is too frequent? ...You'd prefer Apple wait two years between iPad releases?
That'll never happen.Edwin-S said:Well, yes. I'd like these companies to engineer enough features and power into a device to get a 2 or 3 year life cycle out of it before it turns into electronic landfill due to obsolescence.
Very good to know this w/ certainty. Makes it easier for me to just choose one and not be concerned about being stuck w/ either teleco forever. One thing though, how easy (and cheap) is it to acquire a useable sim card for/from the other teleco? Would I have to pay an arm and a leg for that? OR just a very nominal fee similar to an activation fee (or maybe they'd offer them for free since they'd be winning your business?)?Sam Posten said:Wasn't clear you could use a Verizon iPad domestically with an AT&T sim.
Very nice to know they're readily available right now. I was hoping to score one w/in the next couple weeks, but wasn't able to commit to an online preorder earlier before they started listing it as available in 2-3 weeks...Originally Posted by Nelson Au /t/319090/official-new-ipad-3rd-generation-announcement-thread/150#post_3907575
Well, I'm really nuts! I just walked into my local Apple Store here at noon time. The line was mostly gone and I waited less then 5 minutes, was escorted in with the card of the model I wanted, they got it, set it up and I was out in no time. I haven't even looked at one yet! This is my third one, now I have one of each. Well, my parents has one of them..
Remarkable in that I waited about an hour and a half for the first iPad, 8 hours for the iPhone 4 and for the iPad 2, I opted to wait 2 months as the demand was so high, I couldn't get it the first day. This time was a breeze!
I'll try it out after I synch it, no iCloud yet.
