Yeah Jaleel, just to get rid of movie because it wasn't recorded in 5.1 seems pretty sad. Its sounds like your more interested in the sound than the actual picture. Do you watch any classic old movies? DPLII has greatly improved my classic movies.
If I'm going to spend thousands on audio equipment and software that's going to justify my purchasing it. Why buy a Ferrari if you're only going to drive 40 MPH on the road. Once you go 5.1 you can't go back. When I purchased a widescreen TV I got rid of almost every DVD that wasn't 16x9 enhanced.

Greg- Good one! :emoji_thumbsup:
Jaleel, not to get on your case or anything :) but you must be more interested in technology than art...

Because people buy them to look impressive in, not to
go fast, unfortunately. Same with high end Porche's.
But for home theater, 5.1 for every movie isn't really
practical. Older movies "redone" in 5.1 are generally
not worth it. They tend to have overrecorded music in the
left and right and next to nothing in the surrounds so
doing them in 5.1 is more of a selling gimmick than a real
benefit to the listener.
But, Pro-Logic II does seem to be a major benefit to
any 2.0 source, over old Pro-Logic that is.
And people should also bear in mind that "EX" and other
matrix 6th channels can be heard in nearly all 2.0 or
better sources, no special "encoding" is required to exist
to run that 6th channel. While it's possible encoding improves the presentation of the matrix 6th channel, it is
not really needed. The decoder will bring out the channel
as long as the information was mixed into the 5.1 source
and not dispensed with in the mixing process.
Of course, DTS ES Discrete's 6th channel MUST be encoded.
