I upgraded my motherboard on my htpc recently and I'm having serious problems. I keep getting Stop 0000007b errors any ideas I purchased this computer from someone last year and don't have the operating system is there another way around without having to buy a Operating system?

stop error sounds like win2k or XP. . . either which way I would suggest going to microsoft.com or google.com and looking up the error. there should have been another set of numbers after the -07 which is what is needed to find out the exact error.

right now I haven't a clue if you can fix the problem without the os disk, but more times than not an os reinstall is the best route, so you might want to look into picking up an os disk anyway.

Thanks Rob the error code is Stop: 0x0000007B(0XF9E48640,0XC00000034,0X00000000,0X000 00000)I don't know if this will help but there it is.

here's a link to a forum thread were a guy had the exact same problem as you, I think, same stop code though:

and lo and behold the stop code and your recent upgrade are quite related. your windows installation is having troubles with your new motherboard. check out this microsoft site for a possible workaround:

hrm, looks like the win200 link I posted above is out of service so I'll post the link to the same problem but in winxp. it will be a bit different but should give you a base to work from.
