I must respectfully disagree. These neighbors willfully turned a blind eye towards property damage and potential harm to people, and showed an appalling lack of value for children and safety.

As the father of two daughters, I wanna buy that veteran a beer or two. If you want to feel bad about something, grieve for the dog. It wasn't the dog's fault; obviously the owners failed to train or care for it properly. But the utter contempt the owners showed for their own dog and their neighbors evaporates any sympathy I might have felt for them.

As big a dog lover as I am, if the owners are not going to have the common courtesy to protect the neighborhood, then I am glad that old man did.
