I don't recall when they started this trend of not including the Blu-Ray with the UHD purchase. For these type of releases, are we expecting the to be barebones (meaning no special supplements), or is it the case that both the Blu-Ray and UHD versions contain the same supplements. If the latter, do we expect them to be HD, and UHD quality respectively?

Paramount typically issues the full slate of bonus features on both the UHD and BD editions in cases like this, but on the UHD disc, the bonuses are still usually HD.

Ah, a release date at long last (I haven't seen it yet). I'll buy it & put it on my Christmas pile, it might well be the big Christmas Day movie (I like to recreate those far off pre-home cinema days when TV put on a big film for Christmas evenings).

So, what bonus content is available on the 4k disc vs the digital copy. My expectation is that following the release of part 2, there will be a special edition.
The press release I saw on another site had these two extras asterisked as "digital only":

  • Deleted Shots Montage—Director Christopher McQuarrie and editor Eddie Hamilton share some of the breathtaking, never-before-seen footage that didn't make the final film.
  • Editorial Featurette: The Sevastopol—Director Christopher McQuarrie and editor Eddie Hamilton take viewers through the intense opening scene.

Even if they are “digital only,” every disc sold for this title includes the digital copy, so anyone buying the disc will have access to this content via that included digital copy.

I'll probably wait to buy a disc until both parts of the film are available in a single package. Might pick up a digital version of Part One if it's cheap.

BS

Digital content requires another player to access (for those with another type of player)

Digital content can be removed.
Try accessing the 'bonus content' for many Disney discs from a few years ago.

Also, Paramount supports the iTunes Extras programme for digital copy, which includes most if not all special features digitally.

Well, since this thread is about the physical release, why should anyone care about the digital release.
Because the press release implies that the extras will not be on the physical release.

If I recall correctly, there were some digital only bonus features on Maverick last year but it wasn't everything. I would be very surprised if the Dead Reckoning disc is actually completely barebones. I loved the movie though and will buy a physical copy even if the bonus features are not there. I don't like digital exclusive extras as a general practice, but I will watch the extras using the digital copy if they are absent from the disc.

I wonder when that commentary track was recorded. Tom Cruise has participated in commentary tracks before for this franchise, so his absence is noticeable. This movie opened the week that the SAG-AFTRA strike began, so if the commentary was recorded after that, it would explain why he is not on it.

The Lost City (which Paramount released to disc in July 2022) was also available in separate single-disc Blu-ray and UHD editions. I don't know if that was the first one or not. But they've been doing this for a while.

I don't have a UHD player but have occasionally gotten a UHD release over the past few years if it includes a Blu-ray that I can play right now. Most recently I did this for the UHD release of Cinderella because the bundled Blu-ray was remastered. I never do that for Paramount releases now because of this policy. So Paramount will get my money for the Blu-ray version only.
