I bought a cheap microphone at Wal-Mart connected to the mic input on my computer, win xp....turned mute off and tested using sound recorder....you can barely hear anything.

any ideas on what's wrong? not enough power getting to the mic?

thanks guys

Try right-clicking the volume icon in your system tray and ensure your line-in or microphone-in levels are at an acceptable level for playback and/or recording (recording levels accessed after clicking options/properties).

Thanks for the advice ac, but I stll can't get it to work right. Whenever I record something no matter how many combinations of tweaks I perform, All I get is alotta grain, some garbles when I talk, and quick bursts of bass.

Is it a cheap mic? is it because I have integrated audio?
