There's more? Holy cow, I thought you guys had exhausted your supply in the first volume!

I can already think of a few that might be available, and sadly, a few that almost certainly aren't. I hope there are yet others that are a total surprise to me.

It'll be hard to match volume 1 for sheer variety of subject matter across different eras. And really I don't expect it to, I'm sure it'll be a treasure trove of curiosities and well worth having.

Indeed, a great opportunity for those who unfortunately lack the ability for home 3-D playback, as well as those who'd like to see these films on the big screen, and hopefully with an audience.

We've just presented a screening of 3-D RARITIES at the Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, NY. The theatre is just 1.3 miles from the still-standing home of stereoscopic pioneer, John A. Norling. He lived at the Colonial style brick home in Scarsdale from 1937 to his death in May, 1957.

It felt good bringing his work back home!

About a year ago - after working on IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE for NBCUniversal - I was in a unique position to secure good left/right elements on THE GLASS WEB, WINGS OF THE HAWK and TAZA, SON OF COCHISE in order to create a 3-D master for Blu-ray release.

The Sirk/Boetticher films were proposed to Criterion for 3-D Blu-ray but they had no interest. In addition, Panamint could have licensed it but passed on the Jack Arnold film.

I'd still like to try and make this happen. Can anyone recommend a company in Region 2 that has both a licensing agreement with NBCUniversal AND the wisdom to release three masterful stereoscopic works from those great directors?

Two that spring to mind immediately are Network and Eureka. They both specialise in releasing restored prints of 50s/60s etc., films. I guess you probably know about them already, Bob - and of course I have no idea what licensing arrangements they might have. Also is Arrow a UK based company, possibly?

Arrow Films look like a good bet given their eclectic mix of releases. I don't know anything about their licencing deals though.
Can't hurt to give them a call.

Cornerstone Media unfortunately are no longer in business. A pity, as they might have been perfect for the job.

So many of the Universal releases from overseas seem to be from the Continent -- France and Germany. So I'll leave it to better authorities than myself to recommend leads in the UK.

That said, boy would I love to get Glass Web, assuming that music-rights issue isn't an ongoing obstacle... (?)

Koch Media in Germany has licenses with Universal and Fox and has released over 50 westerns on Blu-ray and DVD. Many of their western titles remain unreleased in Region A. Their titles always have the original English audio included as an option. Since 2 out of 3 of your titles are western films, they may be very interested.

Bob, thanks for sharing Mr. Norling's 1954 article of 3D from the golden age as it certainly struck a chord with me. Some things apparently never change. His statement "Certainly, the industry seemed to have done almost everything possible to make its success short-lived" resonates perfectly with the brief rise and fall of 3DTV we have just lived through and to the ongoing demise of 3D theatrical showings across a lot of the country.

Why wouldn't Universal be interested in releasing these in Region A? Westerns don't sell as well as Sci-Fi? Too bad it hasn't a deal going with Kino, who would gladly get these out.

Still trying to get used to your new Avatar...I keep looking for that familiar Blue cover!

Hi Bob,
Have you tried contacting an Australian distributor? Australia is region "B" for Blu-rays the same as the UK and Europe.
Umbrella Entertainment, Shock Entertainment and Madman Entertainment are worth investigating.
Madman has recently released several classic Universal TV series on Blu-ray.

Thank you for all your work in making as many classic 3D films available as possible.
