I know the Marantz retails for twice the price of the Yamaha. Do that always mean that the more expensive model will outperform the lesser model in all aspects?

Right now I own the Yamaha HTR 5150, which I want to upgrade because it has no pre outs, no DPLII, and sounds awfully bright for music.

I have read that the 1200 is much improved for 2-channel music, but the Marantz is know for its musicality.

In spite of my desire for improved 2-channel, I will nonetheless use the receiver for 75% HT. Will the Marantz's DSP modes for movies match Yamaha's?

Thanks,

Robert

If you don't like the sound of the 5150, you probably aren't going to like the sound of the 1200 much better, IMO. Two channel music is simply wonderful with Marantz, and HT is very good also. I can't help you on DSPs, since I never use them, if I can avoid it. There aren't too many DVDs that I come across that do not have 5.1 mixes, and with the occasional one with DD surround only, I do use DPL-II (I do not have a VCR or LD in my main system).
