General Ahmed (Rod Perry (TV’s S.W.A.T.) has started an inner-city People’s Army to try and relieve the misery of the citizens of Watts. When the locals are put under increasing pressure by Mafia thugs, Ahmed’s second-in-command Colonel Kojah (Charlie Robinson, TV’s Night Court, Sugar Hill) asks for permission to start a protection squad to take more direct action. Ahmed fears this protection squad will just turn into a vigilante mob, and his prediction soon proves correct. Will Ahmed be able to wrest control back from the power-mad Kojah, or will he be the mob’s next victim? Throw away all those PD bootlegs and watch this classic in HD from the original camera negative! Directed by cult filmmaker Lee Frost (Chain Gang Women, Policewomen, Dixie Dynamite).

Amazon.ca is pretty spotty when it comes to Kino titles. Conquest, Five Graves to Cairo, Gotcha, Havana, The Art of Love, The Ghost Breakers, Death on the Nile and the other Poirot films - they're all either unavailable or only available via third party sellers.

I only wish someone would unearth the other ethnic language films of the 1930's, including the Edgar Ulmer / Avramenko Ukrainian language films! Such a fascinating and overlooked bit of cinema!

You can buy four of Ulmer's Yiddish films on DVD, directly from the National Centre for Jewish Film.

Fellini's Casanova (1976)
Directed by Federico Fellini
Starring Donald Sutherland

New 4K restoration!

The incomparable Federico Fellini (La Dolce Vita) directs this visually stunning portrait of Casanova, the infamous Italian womanizer, adventurer, author, and libertine. In a remarkable performance, Donald Sutherland (Klute) portrays the great seducer not as an amorous anomaly, but an everyday man living in extraordinary times. Featuring dazzling European settings (although it was filmed entirely in Rome), an unforgettable musical score by the great Nino Rota (The Godfather), and Oscar®-winning costume design by Danilo Donati (Romeo and Juliet), Fellini’s Casanova is a cinematic experience to fall in love with. Fellini and Bernardino Zapponi (City of Women) received Oscar® nominations for their adapted screenplay.

Special features:
*Alternate English and Italian audio tracks
*Audio commentary by film critic Nick Pinkerton
*Booklet essay by film scholar Alberto Zambenedetti, PhD
*Optional English subtitles
*Trailer

Linda Blair (The Exorcist, Roller Boogie) is Brenda, vivacious leader of the “Satins”, a fun-loving group of pretty high school girls. The Satins are in for trouble from the first moment they play a harmless prank on the “Scars” -- a vicious gang who runs loose on the Hollywood streets. The Scars and their malevolent leader, Jake (Robert Dryer, The Sisterhood), take their revenge seriously -- first with Brenda’s deaf-mute sister (Linnea Quigley, Return of the Living Dead), and then her soon-to-be-married best friend. Caught up in her rivalry with the cheerleaders, Brenda is at first unaware of the Scars’ involvement, but she soon finds out the full truth. Shocked... full of hate... in a skintight black suit… Brenda searches for the gang members and she takes them out one by one with deadly vengeance. Co-starring John Vernon (Chained Heat, Dirty Harry) and directed by Danny Steinmann (The Unseen, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning), now see the cult classic in widescreen and in HD!

Okay, I have a question for our Mr. KL-Insider guy: When it comes to 'vintage' (pre-1960s) fare, we've often heard you talk about titles and material not being picked up because they'd likely be poor sellers. We've also heard from you about releases in this vein that have been disappointments and underperformers that didn't meet expectations, sales-wise. My question is for the opposite... have there been some 'vintage' titles that you released that have surprised on the upside, being considerably better sellers than anticipated?

Adventure-seeker Mitzi (Lawrence Dane, Scanners, Happy Birthday to Me) invites fellow doctor (Hal Holbrook, Into the Wild, Capricorn One, The Fog) and three other physician friends to go on their annual camping trip in the middle of the unexplored Canadian mountains. The five of them thought that they were alone in the middle of nowhere on their ritual camping trip, but this time someone was watching them. A crazed psychopath wants to play a psychological game of survival with the five campers and it soon becomes a horrifying game of kill or be killed. Robin Gammell (Lipstick) co-stars. Special make-up by Carl Fullerton (Friday the 13th Parts 2 & 3). The film is presented completely uncut and uncensored from a vault element from the producer!

No, I can't think of one, some of the smaller older titles we acquired were good sellers, but they met our expectations and not exceeded it, some were okay sellers were got back our original investment, others unfortunately failed to recoup. The surprises are usually on B titles from the 1970s onward.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I recently watched "The Caper of the Golden Bulls" with Stephen Boyd and it was a really fun caper film. The blu ray looks great too. I honestly hadn't ever heard of this film and bought it blind and was presently surprised. Definitely recommended for Boyd fans and 1960's caper type films. The ending is a bit of a surprise.

I went to see it when it opened for Yvette Mimieux.

Franz Schiller (Mark Damon, House of Usher, Black Sabbath) goes to Transylvania in search of a cursed ancient ring. His quest brings him to Castle Dracula, where he discovers and falls for the strange and beautiful La Contessa Dolingen de Vries (Rosalba Neri, Amuck, No Way Out), who turns out to be Countess Dracula, hell-bent on bringing Count Dracula back to life. Schiller is put under the Countess’ evil spell as his twin brother Karl Schiller arrives in Transylvania trying to save his brother before it’s too late. Co-starring funnyman Xiro Papas (Frankenstein ’80), directed by cult director Luigi Batzella (Beast in Heat), photographed by Cult Icon Joe D’Amato (Ator, the Fighting Eagle) and produced by the Great Ralph Zucker (Bloody Pit of Horror)! Blood and breasts abound in this Italian exploitation horror classic that offers yet another variation on the grisly but true story of a 17th-century Hungarian countess, Elizabeth Bathory, who bathed in the blood of over 600 virgins to retain her youthful appearance. This cult euro-horror favorite features very atmospheric and sometimes brutally shocking scenes. Not for the timid, and one to keep away from your young kids.

Well that's too bad. Because that's mostly what i buy from KL. Hope you continue to put out classic older titles.
