Indeed, this film is the definition of a hidden gem. I have very good memories of The Grey Fox since I saw it in the theater years ago, in <gulp>, 1982.

i failed to show up for one of my college exams, because seeing this film at the time was more important, very fond memories indeed. Now if we could just get a North American blu ray release of "The Straight Story"

Holy cow, THE GREY FOX! That's one that I never ever expected. And it makes me very happy.
I have the (pretty rare) fullscreen laserdisc but it's suffering from speckling.
It's another little-known film that deserves to be seen more widely. Farnsworth is just magnificent.

Okay, KLI, there's another nearly-unknown little movie that I have on laserdisc that I'd like to see get some attention, so why not hope for it out loud - it's called EYES OF FIRE (1983), a rather unique horror film set in the pioneer days of the American expanding frontier. Find it and secure it! :D

EYES OF FIRE is a mesmerizing hybrid of pioneer days / modern day witchcraft that I find memorable and very, very creepy. It was released by Vestron Video on VHS and a deplorable laser disc, but has so far gone no further. For a short time I was hopeful that the "new" Vestron reissue label would put this out, but nada. I, too, would recommend that Kino or someone acquire this unfortunately under-appreciated, very competent low-budget horror film. Has some of the same vibe that THE WITCH (2015) has.

From Chris Columbus, the director of Adventures in Babysitting, Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone comes this rock-and-roll fantasy! It’s 1972 — Teenager Johnny Wolfe (Charlie Schlatter, 18 Again) borrows his mom’s (Tuesday Weld, Lord Love a Duck) pink Cadillac only to get swept up in a series of outrageous events. After successfully kidnapping Elvis Presley (David Keith, The Lords of Discipline), Johnny’s family and sleepy hometown will never be the same. Heartbreak Hotel is another critically acclaimed and lively hit from writer/director Columbus.

• Audio Commentary by Film Historian Sally Christie

aka The Long Island Lolita Color 96 Minutes 1.33:1 UNRATED
Drew Barrymore (Mad Love, 50 First Dates) sizzles in this unbelievable true story! On May 19th 1992, 17-year-old high school student Amy Fisher (Barrymore) fired a bullet into the head of Mary Jo Buttafuoco (Laurie Paton, TV’s The Commish), the wife of the bodyshop owner with whom she claimed to have been having a sexual affair. But in the explosive media frenzy that followed, did the truth become the most innocent victim of all? This is the sensational true story of lust, greed and obsession that shocked the nation. Barrymore stars as the notorious “Long Island Lolita,” the scheming teen from an unhappy home whose torrid relationship with Joey Buttafuoco (Anthony Denison, TV’s The Closer) led to a shocking suburban nightmare of prostitution, murderous assault and attempted suicide. It’s high-voltage thrills as David Duchovny (The X-Files), Angelina Jolie (Salt) and Timothy Hutton (Q & A) square off in an edgy confrontation where the stakes are high... and the action is deadly. Duchovny plays Eugene Sands, an ex-surgeon lured into a dark underworld by the hip—but lethal—mobster Raymond Blossom (Hutton). Sands gets caught in a web of murder and mayhem as he grows far too close to Blossom’s dangerously seductive mistress (Jolie). Playing God is a potent action-thriller where passion and deception meet in a battle between good and evil. Co-starring Peter Stormare (John Wick: Chapter 2), Michael Massee (Lost Highway), Gary Dourdan (Alien: Resurrection), John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone) and Tracey Walter (The Hunter).

Great recent announcements.

Whatever happened to Transylvania-65000?

I thought it would have been released in time for Halloween.

Just wondering if there might be a "Christmas or Chanukah surprise" this year, some sort of biblical classic, Story of Ruth or Barabbas or whatever. Guess folks just don't do that anymore but just asking. Nice that folks still celebrate Halloween, however.
