But does Warner own it? I thought Rafter Romance was originally released on dvd via TCM, either alone or in a set that included Stingaree, a title that Kino is releasing shortly.

Yes. Warner does own it. Hence why it was released by TCM.

Stingaree is a PD title. That's why it's being released by Kino Lorber on Blu-Ray. I'd prefer it if Warner released it on Blu-Ray instead since I believe they have access to better film elements, but as I've mentioned above, they've not been very forthcoming with blu-ray releases of pre-code films and early talkies.

Rafter Romance and Stingaree were both part of a group of RKO films whose rights were acquired by Merian C. Cooper in the 1940's as part of a settlement deal with the studio. Turner Entertainment acquired them for theatrical , video, and television showings on TCM in 2007. It would take someone more well-informed than myself to figure out who controls the rights now (Turner Entertainment was bought by TIME Warner and supposedly WB distributes their films) -- however Kino is indeed issuing a Blu-ray of Stingaree -- so perhaps there are more BD's from this group of films coming from them.

According to Kino Lorber Insider, Stingaree, in particular, is a PD title. LINK

You may be right about Rafter Romance not belonging to TCM anymore.

Just because it came out via TCM (especially as an exclusive release for their website) does not mean Warner owns it. TCM released the Universal-owned Remember The Night on both dvd and blu, as well as the Sony-owned Only Angels Have Wings (before it went OOP and Criterion picked it up) and The Lady From Shanghai.

According to Kino Lorber Insider, Stingaree, in particular, is a PD title. LINK

My whole reason for asking here was to find out whether there was any hope for the movie. Back when Stingaree was announced, the Kino representative mentioned they had a few more RKO pre-codes (obviously not owned by Warner), and I was hoping, since Rafter Romance was owned by Merian C. Cooper along with Stingaree, that maybe there was a chance for the movie.

While he has the older Blu-ray, my 25-year-old son is making sure that he gets this new restored Blu-ray of "The Sacrifice".
I hope this kind of restoration will come for Tarkovsky's "The Mirror"

"Warner does control most of the RKO library, some RKO titles are no longer with them and some are PD, like the ones we've acquired from Lobster films, Stingaree, Deluge, etc."
Not to belabor a point, but to me, this statement implies that Stingaree is either no longer with RKO , and might or might not be PD. It was certainly out of circulation for a long time before Turner acquired that Cooper package.

• Audio Commentary by Film Historian Lee Gambin

From Paul Wendkos, the director of The Mephisto Waltz, Cannon for Cordoba and Guns of the Magnificent Seven comes this stylish heist film starring badass Bo Svenson (Walking Tall Part II, Breaking Point) and the beautiful Cybill Shepherd (Taxi Driver, Once Upon a Crime). A gang of thieves plan a daring bank robbery, making their escape across the rooftops of Los Angeles buildings. The police are quickly called in and only one of the robbers, Murdock (Svenson), makes a clean getaway. Unfortunately, in order to do so, he is forced to dump the stolen cash into a mailbox, which he then finds is locked until midnight, forcing him to wait until the mailman makes his late-night pickup. As he waits, he discovers that his hiding place has been observed by several other people, all of whom want a share of the loot. The stellar cast includes Tom Atkins (Halloween III: Season of the Witch), Sorrel Booke (Bank Shot), Gerrit Graham (Beware! The Blob), Michael C. Gwynn (Harry in Your Pocket), Jeff Goldblum (The Fly), Vic Tayback (Thunderbolt and Lightfoot), Robert Ito (Dimension 5), Kim Richards (Tuff Turf), Deidre Hall (TV’s Days of Our Lives), Ed Peck (Bullitt) and John Quade (Every Which Way But Loose).

HOW DO I LOVE THEE? (1970) Color 109 Minutes 1.78:1 Rated GP
Tom Waltz (Rick Lenz, Cactus Flower) is flying to France to see his hospitalized father (Jackie Gleason, Papa’s Delicate Condition). While aboard the jet, Tom recalls many scenes from his past. Specifically, the time his father generously donated a $10,000 gift to Tom’s philosophy department from money he won through a poetry contest. The winning poem was given to him by artist named Lena (Shelley Winters, Whoever Slew Auntie Roo?) with whom he has an unconsummated affair – not knowing the poem was actually the sonnet “How Do I Love Thee?” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Michael Gordon (Pillow Talk) directed this comedy of regrets and errors based on a book by Peter De Vries (Pete ‘n’ Tillie) and co-starring screen legend Maureen O’Hara (Miracle on 34th Street) as Tom’s mom and beautiful Rosemary Forsyth (What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice?) as his wife.

MASTERMIND (1976) Color 86 Minutes 1.78:1 Rated G
Bumbling Asian detective, Inspector Hoku Ichihara (the great Zero Mostel, The Producers, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), who has delusions that he’s a great Samurai warrior, is assigned to protect an experimental robot in this spoof of Charlie Chan mysteries. Alex March (Paper Lion, The Big Bounce) directed this hilarious comedy in the tradition of the Inspector Clouseau films. The strong supporting cast includes Bradford Dillman (Compulsion), Keiko Kishi (The Yakuza), Jules Munshin (On the Town), Furankî Sakai (Mothra), Sorrell Booke (TV’s The Dukes of Hazzard) and Phil Leeds (History of the World: Part I).

Never seen How Do I Love Thee but with a cast consisting of Jackie Gleason, Maureen O'Hara , Shelley Winters and the underrated Rosemary Forsyth, I've always wanted to. Now I can. Thanks, Kino!

A Lady Takes a Chance (1943) with optional English subtitles

Screen legends Jean Arthur (The More the Merrier, A Foreign Affair) and John Wayne (Rio Bravo, Brannigan) co-star in this romantic comedy western directed by Hollywood veteran William A. Seiter (You Were Never Lovelier). Finding men had never been a problem for city girl Molly Truesdale (Arthur); finding the right man is another matter. And women have never been a problem for cowboy bachelor Duke Hudkins (Wayne), until they want to marry him. If it's true that opposites attract, these two are obviously made for each other. When Molly sets out from New York on a cross-country bus tour, she just wants to see America. But her plans take an unexpected turn out West, when she collides (literally!) with Duke while he's competing at the rodeo. He assumes she's just another pretty gal who'll fall into his arms, but she's a lady who won't be roped easily by a brawling, rough-and-ready cowboy. Jean Arthur shows the spunk that made her one of the biggest stars of Hollywood's Golden Era, and John Wayne is at his most charming when he falls for her against his better judgment. Charles Winninger (Nothing Sacred), Grant Withers (Trigger, Jr.) and comedy legend Phil Silvers (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum) co-star in this truly classic romantic comedy.

The Crew (2000)
• Audio Commentary by director Michael Dinner
• 5.1 Surround and 2.0 Audio
• Original Theatrical Trailer

GoodFellas meets Grumpy Old Men! Loaded with laughs, The Crew features screen legends Burt Reynolds (Gator, Malone) and Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws, The Goodbye Girl) in a sidesplitting story about a set of golden-year ex-gangsters fighting to protect their last piece of turf. Back in the days when mobsters were larger than life, none lived bigger than Bobby (Dreyfuss), Joey "Bats" (Reynolds), Mike "The Brick" (Dan Hedaya, Blood Simple) and Tony "The Mouth" (Seymour Cassel, Rushmore). But now well into retirement, the old crew find themselves suddenly facing eviction from their run-down Miami Beach hotel – The Raj Mahal. That's when they decide there's only one thing left to do – turn back the clock and pull one last "hit" in order to save their home. Michael Dinner (Hot to Trot) directed this hilarious action-comedy written by Barry Fanaro (Kingpin). The stellar cast includes Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), Jennifer Tilly (Bride of Chucky), Lainie Kazan (My Favorite Year), Jeremy Piven (TV’s Entourage) and Casey Siemaszko (Young Guns).

A Pyromaniac's Love Story (1995)
• Audio Commentary by director Joshua Brand, moderated by filmmaker Heather Buckley
• Original Theatrical Trailer

Everyone's falling in love with the wrong person in this hilariously hot all-star romantic comedy – A Pyromaniac's Love Story! Heartthrob William Baldwin (Backdraft) stars as the outrageous Garet, who tries to win the love of his sweetheart Stephanie (sexy Erika Eleniak, Under Siege) with a blazing crime of passion... but she's got the hots for Sergio (John Leguizamo, John Wick), who's carrying a big torch for a hot-tempered waitress named Hattie (beautiful Sadie Frost, Love, Honor and Obey)! Mixed-up romantic signals and comic confusion abound until the smoke finally clears... and everyone involved can realize their burning desires. The top-notch cast includes Michael Lerner (Barton Fink), Joan Plowright (Enchanted April), Mike Starr (Dumb and Dumber) and Armin Mueller-Stahl (Eastern Promises). Directed by veteran television writer Joshua Brand (TV’s The Americans, St. Elsewhere and Northern Exposure).

I'll be ordering "Lisbon" for the cast and the curiosity.

From the article, Naturama looks like a lot of ballyhoo about simply attaching an anamorphic in front of another lens -- Seems sort of like when I put that Pentax 3D Mirror over my old Nikon lenses on a still camera in order to get two images, only in Naturama's case to get the anamorphic squeeze.

Am I reading that right ?
