"I think I going to die!"
I can't wait for this!

The UK R2 DVD review sounds ok while Ron E.
keeps singing about the potential US R1 edition.
I can't imagine Fox having different transfers
so perhaps Ron compares the stuff he has seen
to old VHS and the UK review compares the disc
to a typical new DVD transfer?
Maybe Fox could include an example of the
restoration that has been done?
In any case, this DVD will sit next to
my CD and LP of "All That Jazz"!

The recent "Fosse" DVD musical also has some

old clips of Bob and Roy while they were making

"All That Jazz", it would be interesting to see

if they are the same clips as the extras on the DVD.

Everyone is aware that All That Jazz is
one of my all-time top 4 favorite films.
In fact, I dare say that it was my suggestion
that put this DVD into production nearly two
years ago.
With that in mind, I am going to wait for
the R1 release despite the fact that I am just
itchin' to buy the R2 version.
I am very concerned by the reviewer's just
"okay" transfer review stating it looked
washed out in areas. I saw a clip at Fox
Studios last year (from film print) and it
looked just absolutely amazing.
At the very least, perhaps Fox will send
me an early R1 test disc to review. Otherwise,
once the R1 release is announced I'll have a
review shortly afterwards.
Nice to read this early review nonetheless.

I was going to buy the region 4 release but I think I'll hold off and wait & see what the region 1 DVD is like. Like Ron, I'm itchin' to buy it already.

How mucher longer do we have to wait for this title? Fox has been saying they're going to release it for 2 years now.

The recent "Fosse" DVD musical also has some clips of Bob and Roy...
It does? I missed 'em! Where are they?

The bonus clips of Bob Fosse on the "All That Jazz" disc are quite short, and were all shot during the two days the "On Broadway" number was filmed. A couple of them I had seen before in the interview on the "Pippin" dvd. The rest were completely new to me.

There are also a couple of short interview-style snippets of Roy Scheider on set, when the scene in Katie's apartment was shot. Nothing revelatory here, but nice to have since I hadn't seen them before at all.

Another UK review by Mr. Steve Ducker of "A Chorus Line".

It sounds like he might expect alot for films from the 80's
that has seen alot of wear and tear. His reviews seem
lukewarm in the middle of each, then end on a strong note?
Maybe he doesn't want to drive off fans but wants to give
a heads up to new viewers that these movies are not
Moulin Rouge?

The R1 release was held upfor a couple of months because of a potential new peice of material which in the end did not materialise.

We are looking at when it would make most sense to release this and The Rose. They probably wouldn't do well in the crowded 4th quarter.

Ron, I'll see if I can dig out a special early review copy!1

Thanks for your interest,

Peter

Does mean they won't be available until 2003?

No offense to Mr.Staddon or fans of the films, but FOX doesn't seriously expect these titles to be big sellers? I would think they would get lost in any quarter.

Will the R1 have the same soundtrack format as the r2/4 (which IIRC is Dolby Stereo)?
Yes, I'm with Enrique -- I almost bought it when I was in France, but I figured I'll wait a couple of more months -- but there is no way I want to wait until next year.
I love All That Jazz (and Bob Fosse) -- I saw it several times at the movies during it's initial release -- first I made a special trip to New York to see it at the Cinema 1 on the Upper East Side, and then a couple of more times when it finally made it to the cultural waste land...I mean New Jersey. I haven't seen it in years and years, and it will be a real treat. If anyone is dying for a taste, check out the excellent DVD of Fosse (a 16:9 taped version of the recent B'way show) which features some stuff from All That Jazz as well as many other Bob Fosse's shows and films.
BTW, how is the Cabaret DVD?

The French site dvdfr.com gave the R2 edition of "All That Jazz" lukewarm score of 3/5 for picture quality:
http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/critique.php3?id=5441
For those who don't speak French, the reviewer speaks of "A clean copy but one which suffers from moments of very light colour saturation. Nothing really bad. A light grain present on the original film and a lack of luminosity on the scenes shot in half-light do not harm the good overall visual feel" (or words to that effect).
The overall score for the DVD was 5.75/10, although six readers have currently voted it an average 9.67/10.

I have very fond memories of first seeing All That Jazz.
It was 1979 and I was a sophomore in high school.
I talked a buddy into seeing the show and he set up
a double date with his girlfriend and a gal pal.
At the end of the show, I walked out loving it and
the other three just wandered out in a daze.
He never knew what I would try and get him to see.
I talked him into a "cool samurai" film.
He thought it would have Bruce Lee in it and again,
when we walked out of Kagemusha, I loved it and
he wandered out in a daze.
Now I am trying to get my kids to watch those
"crazy films" with me.

  This is VERY disappointing news!! It is very disheartening to hear that this release is going to be possibly held up until 2003 or later. I love this film & I believe a lot of other people also do, so Fox, PLEASE release this ASAP!! We'll find it & buy it in large numbers.
