I have been playing dts cd's since the early 2000's on my Sony 2 channel player with true 5 channel sound. The key was I used an optjical cable. I was playing them in my dvd player, but one day I accidently put a dts in the cd player and it worked. It will play continuous or random without a problem. I recently up graded my reciever to a Marantz sr5013 and it only sounds better.

Welcome.

As long as you use a digital output and the receiver can process DTS, you should be fine. Do NOT use an analog output from a CD player (again, a DVD or Blu-Ray player should be fine) or you will receive an awful sound. To get 5.1 surround, you need a digital connection with most systems. So, you can use a DVD/Blu-Ray player through hdmi.
