Well chalk this one up to COVID-19. Sales of players on the rise for once. Twenty seven percent rise.

Oh and streaming devices also on the rise:

Unknown how many of those bluray players were purchased primarily for streaming purposes, and not playing newly purchased bluray discs.

At my local walmart, there were no streaming-only type devices on the shelves (ie. roku, etc ...).

There were still plenty of bluray players, and also standalone dvd-only players with no streaming functions.

Sales of discs were down 37% over the same period to a near record low.

Don't get too excited, folks...

Yes this isn’t a good sign for the future of physical media. I guess at some point I’ll have to
get on the streaming bandwagon.

For those interested in how sales of physical media have been doing, sales last week hit a new official low.

Revenue was about $41 million. To put that into some perspective, the weekly average in 2019 was $65 million.

YTD sales of Physical media are down 16%.
That's pretty much the same general ballpark as the average 18% annual decline 2019/2018/2017/2016.
The only change in the overall numbers is that BD/UHD is down more than DVD.
For odd, but overall meaningless numbers -- May 2020 vs May 2019 actually saw an increase Revenue
The trend is down to nobody's surprise, but the overall trend doesn't appear to be accelerating
