Help! Does anybody have any info on the Toshiba 50X81? (1 Viewer)

Well, my dad called this electronics store (not real professional though or high end), to see if they had any TVs, the guy said that they had a Toshiba 50X81. Now, i haven't seen/heard of a Toshiba with only an X in the model #, since i started searching a couple months ago.
SO i go online to Toshiba.ca and Toshiba.com i cant find any information on it.
The salesperson said its a brand new model this year (i think he's lying).
Does anybody have any information on this TV?

The obvious guess is that it is the 50HX81. These are indeed new models; they have been out for a little over a month. I own one.

The 50X81 was last year's model.
If it is a 16:9 set, then it could be the new 50HX81.

No, it is not 16:9, it is definitely 4:3, and HDTV-ready i know that for sure...

81 is a 16:9 number. If it were 71 then it would be 4:3. So one possibility is the 50H71. The next closest 4:3 model is the 53HX71. Last year's (the 2001 model year) numbers were 80 and 70, respectively.

This model appears to be 2 years old (a 2000 year model). The unit itself may be new but unsold. Toshiba changed their nomenclature for the 2001 model year (we are in the 2002 model year).

yathink its worth $2,900 CAD TAX INLCUDED AND SHIPPED (a tiny bit under $2000 USD)??

Not to solicit sales, but considering what I could sell you a brand new 50H71 for, the answer is no.
If it's brand new in the box, around $2500 is more like it.
