Does a rear projection HDTV have a lamp or tube? I have heard this needs to be replaced every 2-3 years. Can anyone educate me on this?

Most RPTV's have tubes; three of them. Red, Green, and Blue. They rarely need to be replaced, except in the case of burn in or some other catastrophic failure. Typically, they should last as long as any other CRT.

I don't know if there are any LCD RPTV's, but I suppose that or a DLP based would use a lamp. Their life is usually rated in hours. I think 2000 is about average, but I could be wayyyyy off on that.
