I have a whole house speaker system. It consists of a Onkyo NR414 attached to my surround sound and the zone 2 line outs going to a SpeakerCraft amplifier. The SpeakerCraft powers speakers throughout the house and outside. My Bluray and DirecTV have both hdmi and analog outputs so I use the analag outputs to the Onkyo so that I can get whole house sound.

However I was just given a chromecast and I realize it will be great to use it to stream music. But unfortunately it only has an hdmi output. Is there anyway I can get the audio out of the Onkyo analog line outs?

Would something like this work?

Would a new A/V receiver solve the problem? It sounds like most of them have this issue.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

I don't own a Chromecast, so therefore, I have no idea what native music apps it offers...but...

Any of those apps can be served with an ipod/ipad/droid...

But if you are itching for a digital zoning AVR...

Keep in mind with digital zoning...if you want the same source in both places...
1. If the only input is digital, your 5.1 is relegated to 2.0...and DPL
2. If you want native 5.1, you still need the 2nd analog connection(assuming the source device can do this)

"Is that what "Digital Audio Input to Multi-Zone" means?"

Yep.

The only snag is if you'll get HDCP interference Chromecast -> converter -> AVR/TV.

Apparently it works fine on most switches(which is what that technically is). AndroidCentral has a thread about HDMI switches and ChromeCast.
