I for one don't really find the fact that two copies of the SAME title (one of them P&S) landed in the top 10 sold for the week.......the fact that a P&S title is as high as #5 just frightens me (the same with Remember The Titans).

Just a note that I was in my local Best Buy a few hours ago. They got a HUGE restock of Goonies in! An entire shelf was dedicated to the title, and it was full-to-the-brim!!! :)

I never saw The Goonies nor was I aware there was ever a film called The Goonies until joining this forum.
I'm curious what the age groups are that are clamoring for Goonies. Maybe I'm too old (or too young). :)
So, if I'm a demographic thats actually not even aware of such a movie, maybe that explains sales or lack thereof. Just a thought.
For the record, I'm 33.

For the record, I'm 38 and clamored for years till I got my copy. I suspect most fans were younger when they saw it and are in their late twenties early thirties....just like you. So...how was that rock?

Goonies was released June 7, 1985. I was 19 years old, and am now 36. I caught it in a theatre with friends, and then later on watched it multiple times on cable.
It made $64 million at the USA box office...not much by today's standards but a sizable chunk (forgive the pun, fans of the movie!) back then. Upon home video release it immediately made another $30 million.
With a directer like Richard Donner (Superman, Omen, Ladyhawke, Lethal Weapon, Radio Flyer, Scrooged, The Toy) behind it and a writer like Chris Columbus (Gremlins, Young Sherlock Holmes; later director of Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, and now Harry Potter), you can imagine that the interest in this film is sky-high these days amongst most in our age group.
Not to mention that this is a "Stephen Spielberg Presents" film from Amblin' Entertainment!

I didn't think there were enough dvds to make it in the top 100. I ended up finding it at a Virgin Megastore in Las Vegas. none of the stores in Northern California had it.
