You can still see the garbage matte around the :13 mark of that trailer. That was the worst quality of the S-C releases of this film up till now- all those were visible compared to the darker Universal releases that did a better job of masking them.
The Studio Canal blu-ray was mastered with incorrect black levels. Switching your player or monitor's HDMI output from 'light' to 'dark' fixes this. With this corrected, I think the Studio Canal disc was better than the Universal, but there's still room for improvement.

I am disappointed to learn this is not a US domestic release.
Part of that is down to who controls rights where. In North America, Universal owns the rights to this film, whereas elsewhere, it is a StudioCanal release and MGM had licenced it from them for some time in other territories.

Weirdly, it's available on iTunes (at least in Canada) from both Universal and MGM, with different transfers.

All of the calibration recommendations for OLED TV's ALREADY have us running HDMI Black levels at LOW so, unfortunately, that doesn't leave us any place to go, lol!

You can pre-order it on Amazon UK but they won't ship to the USA??

Amazon UK is focusing on essential items (food, household necessities, etc.) for their local customers and has temporarily halted shipping to the US. The Flash Gordon UHD is available at Zavvi.com which is still shipping to the US and also carries an exclusive SteelBook edition.

The movie is a tremendous amount of fun. Camp aside, the production design is beautiful and was influenced by the work of artist Al Williamson, who drew the Flash Gordon comic strip and eventually the Star Wars comic strip (and comic book adaptations for ESB and ROTJ). James Gunn has cited Flash Gordon as an influence on his Guardians films, and of course, there's the line in Avengers: Infinity War when Iron Man derisively calls StarLord "Flash Gordon," and StarLord replies, "Flash Gordon? That's a compliment."

Amazon UK is apparently starting to allow individual blu rays to ship to the US. However the only shipping choice is AmazonGlobal Priority which is about 9 pounds for one disk so really expensive. I noticed you can currently order Long Day's Journey into Night (Katharine Hepburn ) Masters of Cinema for example. Purchase today for delivery Tuesday or Wednesday.

I tested and box sets are also shipping like Sam Fuller at Columbia 1937-1961 will ship to the US . John Ford at Columbia, 1935-1958 (Limited Edition) [Blu-ray] [2020] which before release would not ship to US now does but with a $11.18 pound shipping charge. Perhaps the restriction to the US is only on preorders now.

Just guesstimating, but that 9 pounds would be over $20. Ouch!

It's only a camp classic due to Queen's fantastic soundtrack for the film. Without that it would be complete garbage. With Queen it is just almost complete garbage. May have to rewatch it if is streamed. I have not rewatched the film since its initial theatrical release.
