My father wants to publish his photos on CD but most people (his age) don't have a computer, so he'd like to know if he can give that kind of CD to DVD player owners. Are photo CDs readable with a common DVD player (or an uncommon one)?

No, most DVD players cannot read photo CD's. I believe APEX branded players are able to.
What you want to make is VCD (video CD). Ulead DVD Picture Show ($50) can do this and is easy to use. With VCD you create slideshows with menus and background music (if desired). I distribute photos in this way

I've seen one or two DVD players that can read JPEG files from CD-Rs, but that isn't a common feature.

Slideshows on VCD-Rs or DVD-Rs would appear to be the way to go.

Ok, that's just what I thought. I'll suggest the VCD solution to him. He'll decide wether he can do it or not.

Thank you all.
