Watched a few things today.
Pixar in real life was good.

Watched the Black Cauldron.
First time I have seen this movie and it wasn’t very good.
Watched Iron Man and it was great.

Now watching Phantom Menace and believe it or not I forgot all about the Jar jar binks stuff.
And as soon as he came onscreen I remember how awful all of that is.

I was skeptical, but not shocked that anyone would suggest it; the only reason people believed it was because of the withdrawal of Song of the South and the post-hoc censorship of Fantasia and one or more of the late 1940s package films.

I can understand that too, but am glad they didn’t censor Dumbo. And speaking of the package films, Melody Time is uncut on the service.

Good to hear. If only I could say the same for:

But apparently Saludos Amigos returned to the cut version. Such an odd mixture

Foolish! That they would do this is
Unbelievable! That they will not restore it is
Calamitous! It is
Killing me that Disney movies still face this

Desecration. Do you find it
Irritating? So do I, and it’s
Stupefying and mind-
Numbing, not to mention
Enervating, that this still goes on this
Year.

Matthew “thanks for the hint, Gary OS” A

Dolby Atmos question: Is it only available if you’re streaming 4K?

My Nvidia Shield supports Atmos, but my projector is HD. I tried streaming “Captain Marvel”, which is reported to be in Atmos. But the audio on my system was Dolby Digital +, not Atmos.

I was hoping that I could enjoy D+ in Atmos on my HD system via the Shield (since my AppleTV HD only supports 5.1).

Any insights / info much appreciated!

Looks like no Atmos unless you have a 4K tv.

This is similar to Vudu and MA I think.

So, this is what I am seeing in terms of both Roku and Fire TV sticks:

Roku Premiere:
4K UHD and HDR10 (reverts to HD when connected to an non-HDR capable UHD display)
Dolby Atmos (even on my non-HDR display)

Roku Streaming Stick+:
4K UHD and HDR10 (did not attempt to connect to my non-HDR capable UHD display)
Dolby Atmos

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K:
4K UHD and HDR10 (I do not have a DV-capable display to test this on, but 4K UHD did show on my non-HDR UHD display)
No Dolby Atmos (only DD+ 5.1)

Welp I restarted my Atv and now I see the Atmos indicator on the movie descriptions, it wasn’t there before and I now get Atmos.

Weird.
So people are getting Atmos when connected to an HD display?

Looking forward to signing up tonight. Hopefully it will go smoothly
In fact, superb: I sign up on my iPad and then it automagically linked to my AppleTV 4K.
Looks spectacular: watched some of The Mandalorian - very impressed.

When/if is the Fox material going to appear? (Futurama, Simpsons, Family Guy, etc.)

Dave:

I'm all 4k (except for my display). So I'm using an Apple 4kTV device routed into my new Denon X3600h with the video ending up displayed on my old Panasonic Plasma. And I get the Atmos audio just fine.

Peg and I watched their new live-action Lady & the Tramp which did NOT have an Atmos track, but I also sampled Star Wars (episode 4) and the Atmos indicator came up.
