On paper they appear the same. I love the fact that they have Burr-Brown DAC's and DCDi. The thing that bothers me is, what are the differences? Onecall has the 6480 on sale for $539(MSRP is $599). Are they like the difference between the Yamaha HTR and RX-V receiver line? these players look very good to me. Would anyone like to aslo say whether they would take this over a Denon 1600?

I too have been researching these players for some time now. From what I've been able to determine so far they are the same player. The C920 is the unit shipped to dealers and the C6480 is the unit bundled with the Yamaha "Home-Theater-in-a-Box" systems. If there is any internal differences at all I can't say. I do know that the specs are identical.

I downloaded both manuals and compared them page-by-page to each other. They are identical except for the model number, right down to the exact same dimensions & weight on the 2 players.

There are a lot of folks that will tell you that the Yamaha's are re-badged Panasonic players. And more specifically both of these are built on the Panasonic RP56 with a changer mechanism. I don't know for sure if that's valid or not.

In the end I decided to pass on both of these and ordered a Kenwood DV-5700. I've got 30 days to decide if its a worthy replacement for my Panny RP91
