I currently own the JVC 900. Its a nice unit with features like

    Plays anything
    Detachable Powercord
    Gold plater jacks
    7 Discs
    Film/Video selectable
Macrovision off and Region free can be enabled
    Has DVDA bass management?
a annoying blinking light as dvds play!

I would love to get the Yamaha. But its $200+ more.
Isn't the DVD-C6480 the same unit as the C920?

    It lacks the following things:

only 5 disc (not big of a deal)
    No FILM mode
    No SVCD and possibly DVD-R's
    No detachable power Cord
    No DVDA bass management
    $499 (c920) $468 (C6480) best online price I found vs the $270 I paided for the JVC.

BUT it has the DCDi chipset JVC has a mediamatics I believe.

Which would you buy? Which has a better picture? JVC seems very clean and clear. Will the Yamaha blow it away?

I have not seen the DCDi chip in action yet, so I do not know how big an improvement that it is over the mediamatics. I have a JVC 75GD, essectially the single disc version of your 900. I am going to get the 900 soon, as I am happy with the performance of the JVC aside from a few quirks on my particular unit, like it not reading discs sometimes. The main reason I want to stick with JVC is the SCALING feature built into the mediamatics chip, and inexpensive DVD-A support! The scaling feature is the big selling point for me!
