I've read on other sites that most prefer the 3801 over the 3802, and now I came here to get the FINAL decision straight from THE SOURCE.
What do you guys think? You've never failed me before (I owe my complete HT to you guys!!!) But I need a new A/V receiver to put on this years X-Mas list!
Thanks!

3802. There are two advantages to the 3802, the first (IMHO, the most important) adjustable crossover, but it's not at the most desirable freq for most loud speakers (80, 100, & 120 Hz). In this instance the 4802 has more useful crossover freq. (40, 60, 80, 100, & 120 Hz). The second reason is the Dolby ProLogic II, which is really only useful when watching TV shows.

Michael, If you want DLP2 go for the 3802. If DLP-2 is of no interest to you go with the 3801 and save some money. I own both and trust me, it's the same animal, only the 3802 has 5 more watts per channel and a slight hiss that shows up only if it is driven too loud, not audible with regular material. The 3801 is dead silent from every channel, at any volume.

Not true. DPL2 can also useful on all Dolby Surround, DPL, DD2.0, and stereo tracks on DVDs, LDs, VHS, and music CDs. It really is quite an improvement over DPL.
My vote goes for the 3802, that is unless you can get the 3801 at a great price (

I have been using the 3802 for a couple of months and I love it. I replaced a 2800. PL II and Xover setings are a plus over the 3801. I don't thing that the extra watts really make a big difference between 3802 and 3801.

I've read the 3802 has different transformers and a overall warmer sound over the 3801. I have a 3802 and love it, you can get one for about 100.00 more than a 3801.
