From your cursor to Shout or KL or Criterion's ear, Louis! Free the ABC catalog! (Which I believe includes Silkwood of that went unmentioned.)

Toughed it out with your list and selected my personal top 5 that I would vote for, as well.
"Song of the South" from Criterion? Yah, I'm for it; but Disney would never release their own product to anyone else.
Not true! Anchor Bay released all of these Disney films in the 2000's:
Return to Oz
The Happiest Millionaire
The Cat From Outer Space
The North Avenue Irregulars
The Great Locomotive Chase
The Unidentified Flying Oddball
Never Cry Wolf
Napoleon and Samantha
Nikki Wild Dog of the North
One of our Dinosaurs is Missing
Tex
One Little Indian
The Littlest Horse Thieves
The Legend of Lobo
The Last Flight of Noah's Ark
Condorman
Charlie the Lonesome Cougar
The Castaway Cowboy
Big Red
The Bears and I
Amy
The Black Hole
The Watcher in the Woods

The Istvan Szabo/Brandauer Trilogy (Colonel Redl, Mephisto, and Hanussen) - don't know who controls the rights
Tales of Hoffman - I know it's Studio Canal but there was some talk of Criterion's involvement in the restoration and there's been no Region A release on BD
And dare I hope that The Devils can be wrested from WB?

I just have a short list. Real short. Where is a proper blu ray for Matewan, one of the best union organizing/coal mining history films ever made? This seems like it would be right up Criterions alley. The DVD was terrible, way too dark and if I remember it was full screen. I never bought it and still have the old laserdisc. This film screams for proper treatment and analysis.

Been selecting my personal Top #5 from everyone's longer lists, so here it goes with yours...

Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939)
Wuthering Heights (1939)
The Good Earth
Summertime
Captain's Courageous

I'm cheating a bit, but Captain's Courageous should also be released with Boy's Town to round out that double back-to-back Oscar win for Tracy. After all, it took 60 years for that feat to occur again; but Tracy did it first.

Been selecting my Top #5 personal choices from everyone's list:

Swing Time
Ivanhoe
Hud
A Place in the Sun
Duel in the Sun

Cheating a bit - again - but if Now, Voyager gets released on BD, then it should also come with a simultaneous release of Summer of '42. See if you can guess why?

The answer to my riddle from Post #89:
WAC owns Now, Voyager and Summer of '42.
In Summer of '42, Hermie attempts to make a daring conquest on his movie date.
The theater they attended was showing Now, Voyager.

Guess we can't stop adding to our lists; as I've got a few more:

"Wilson"
"Sons and Lovers"
"Johnny Belinda"

NOTE: I'm repeating myself, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that "Romeo & Juliet" (1968) hasn't been given the red carpet treatment by Criterion or TT; that is, unless, licensing agreements are its sole deterrent. If anyone of influence is reading this, then review in your recollections the intoxicating fusion of its cinematography, sets and costumes; all first-rate Oscar winners. And then there's Nino Rota's wildly popular score that sold like hotcakes in its initial release; so much so, that Paramount was able to produce an unprecedented vinyl of the soundtrack in 3 different versions. Hell, they even got Laurence Olivier to narrate. And let's not forget the amazingly balanced presence of its leading and supporting cast; so very much innovative for its time. "Romeo & Juliet" was a seminal film of the 1960's. By all means, this seamless masterpiece by Franco Zeffirelli warrants a 4K transfer and nothing less.

I know this may be a longshot being that it never released a proper DVD release, but I would love to have Toto Le Heros (1991) receive the Criterion treatment.

Also, more Almodovar please!

Agreed. Cliff Robertson was not deserving of the Oscar and i cannot fathom how he got it. Otoole was amazing in The Lion in Winter. You would think they would have given him the award as a makeup for losing in Lawrence of Arabia and for playing the same also Oscar nominated role in Becket.

It's pretty well known that performances of characters who are in some way disabled, whether mentally or physically, have a distinct advantage in the Oscar race. It doesn't matter that Robertson, while good, did not come close to out-performing O'Toole's amazing, volcanic portrayal of Henry II (for the second time, after BECKET), or Ron Moody's visually and aurally brilliant personification of Fagin in OLIVER!. Frankly, I don't think Robertson's work was even as good as the other two nominees that year, Alan Bates for THE FIXER, and Alan Arkin in THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER. But that's the Oscars, and what are you gonna do?

I absolutely concur. It's a powerful film, and my favorite among the John Sayles filmography. The DVD, if you can even find it (OOP as a U.S. letterboxed DVD, and very expensive as an also OOP but anamorphic PAL import) is sub-par. This film needs to be resurrected!

"It's a Wonderful Life".
Don't know how or if Criterion could get their hands on it, but it sure would be nice to see this title receive the 4K treatment as had "It Happened One Night". How unfortunate that "It's a Wonderful Life" isn't under the Sony/Columbia banner; as Grover Crisp and his staff has consistently produced miracles with the Capra catalogue, matched only by Criterion's treatments of Chaplin.
Without Grover Crisp, Criterion seems to be the only haven of hope where "It's a Wonderful Life" could properly receive its needed corrections and clarities.
And speaking of Chaplin, I wonder when Criterion will be giving us "The Circus"?

.
update to the post that started this mess, lets see how the predictions/speculations are panning out

pulled 2016's list up and removed the released titles, lets see how this plays out this year

, so a lot of carry-overs, left the ones from last year to see the progress

1. The Lodger (Hitchcock)

2. Detour (finally)

3. Utegsu (upgrade)

4. The Unbearable Lightness Of Being (upgrade)

5. Women In Love

6. A Matter of Life and Death

7. Oliver’s Shakespeare Box Henry V (upgrade),Hamlet (upgrade)

8. Kind Hearts and Cornets (upgrade)

9. The Go-Between

10. Pandora's Box (upgrade)

11. The Day After

12. The Lady Eve (upgrade) still waiting for that release date

13. That Hamilton Woman (upgrade)

14. Berlin Alexanderplatz (upgrade)

15. Closely Watched Trains (upgrade)

16. Howard Hawks Screwball Set, Twentieth Century/ Ball of Fire.

17. Capra's Platinum Blonde

18. Night of the Living Dead still waiting on that release date

19. Olympiad oh its coming in a big damn box

20. 3 Silent Classics by Josef von Sternberg (upgrade)

21. Song of the South

So two releases, that I happen to pick up at the last B&N sale, with a guaranteed third on the way, two titles that have been announced/speculated that we are waiting on, (The Lady Eve, Night of the Living Dead). Announcements should be tomorrow, which means 2/3’s of the year is over, where does the time go.

One caveat for those to young to understand please, for the rest of US that dealt with the Cold War, and the current world climate, i remember how terrifying The Day After was when it premiered, a few other films addressed this as well, Threads and Testament. I pray the world, calms its self down, before that has the chance to......it doesn't need said, all children and grandchildren deserve a better world than what is depicted in that.

Soon will have to be Speculating 2018 titles.:D

My top 2 that Criterion did release years ago is Andrei Rublev and The Magnificent Ambersons from their laserdisc days. Also Michelangelo Antonioni's The Passenger (1975) would be a nice release.

I am still waiting for the 2015 4k restoration of The Tales of Hoffmann, with footage not seen since the film's premiere. I saw it at the New York Film Festival, and it was magnificent.
