The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Hey RoundUppers!

First piece of business is to thank everyone for the "likes" of the OP each week. I never want you to think they go unnoticed. Youse guys is great.

Second, there's no sign of a Best Buy flyer anywhere that I can find (either in my local newspaper today...or even scraps on the internet). So, the link to BB's weekly ad is included in the RoundUp and when it goes live (usually after midnight or so Sunday morning) all their deals and such will be listed there.

Thanks for the RoundUp, Mike!

Brigadoon definitely for me to purchase this week. So looking forward to seeing it in high definition.

Fox has informed me I will be getting the last season of Sleepy Hollow. I guess it'll come Monday.

Nothing for me, first time in a while.

Love that folks are excited for Guffman, shows the range we have here at HTF. I hardly hate anything but I really really really hate that movie. :)

Thank you, Mike!

Friday Night Lights is a tremendous series and I would recommend it highly for anyone who doesn't already have it, especially since it is being removed from Netflix next month. However, for that price and considering that none of the extras from Universal's DVDs were ported over, I'm good sticking with them.

Nothing for me this week.

Thanks for the recommendation, Jake. I have been considering the show as I have heard so many good things about it. The theme of highschool football doesn't really speak to me...but people assure me that it's much broader in scope. Peg and I tend to enjoy dramas like Parenthood and This Is Us...so this might be something we consider.

Would anyone care to speculate if they think that $56.xx price might ever come down even further. It already seems like a decent price for the complete series.

I might pick up Brigadoon sometime down the road myself.

I can't stand football but Friday Night Lights is much more about the characters and that's what won me over very quickly.

If you don't mind a backorder (I don;t think there are any stores in your area)-- Fry;s has it for 33 + 8 shipping (or I think FS is $49). Not sure how long this price might last, but it's been up for a few days already. It is Mill Creek so pretty bare bones though the early reports seem to think it's a good transfer.

This is so strange...the only disc I'll get is the cheapest of the lot. Just $8 for BRD of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence. What's that price all about?

Paramount and some other studios have been reissuing a bunch of their titles in the last couple of months. Paramount is doing so because their distribution deal with Warner has expired.

I hate sports. Hate them. Can't stand them. Don't even know most of the rules. Blissfully ignorant.

But I love this show.

When it was in danger of cancellation, multiple times through the years, I was among the crowd of devotees who sent light bulbs to NBC to demonstrate support for its renewal ("keep the lights on.") Usually, I don't think those fan campaigns work much, but in this case I was happy to do it for this show, because it was that good, and I would have been devastated to lose it before its time. DirecTV financed and aired the final three seasons exclusively before NBC got second-window rights, and that deal managed to keep the show on the air for three years after NBC would have cancelled it on their own. If the lightbulb campaign helped move the needle even a fraction of an inch in telling NBC that the show was worth saving, that was money well spent by me as far as I am concerned.

And, since you brought up Parenthood, you should know that the showrunner/head writer of both shows, Jason Katiims, is the same. Several people from FNL migrated over there in guest roles later too.

As far as the price point is concerned, we're now dealing with Mill Creek, who picked up the license from Universal. (I would suspect this is why there are no extras on the set, since they probably didn't bother to license the extras that were on Universal's prior DVDs.) Back when the show was first airing, I paid about $20 or so a year to pick up Universal's first releases of each season. So, you know, $56 is a bargain compared to what I was paying when they were new. I would probably get it if I didn't already have it, but the DVDs look pretty good upscaled, and I doubt the increase in quality of the BDs for a low-budget television show are significant enough to me to make it worth plucking down another $56 on this show and then NOT being able to unload the DVDs (since I want to retain the extras.) I can't speak to Mill Creek's strategy in terms of price drops since I don't really know what they do. But $56 is pretty reasonable, I think, if you are in a position to be able to make that kind of blind buy.

David: I don't understand the $33+$8 price. I see the $49.99 price (with FS) at Fry's. Where would I find the former price?

The price changed last night after I posted (it was 49.99 when I checked this morning). I knew it had been up for a few days, but there was no indication of when it was going the expire. I was afraid it might be one of those prices that changed on Sunday (I think Frys is on Pacific Time) and was hoping you might catch it before it switched.

The price was $32.99. Plus $8 shipping (or FS with $49 order)

If this follows the usual pattern of other Mill Creek titles ( Quantum Leap and Miami Vice) I suspect within a few weeks or a month it will be priced similarly at Best Buy, Walmart (and then Amazon might react)

So I take it this release is identical to the release of a few years ago with identical packaging? This is one of my favorite movies and I would triple dip if there is anything new about it.
