Well, some people here have defended him, certainly.
But compared to the Kubrick thread, where there were many people vociferously arguing in favor of Kubrick's genius, not many people have posted here, which is exactly the point.
I still think there is waning interest in Chaplin, even though he is the original auteur, writing, directing and scoring his own films for himself to star in, basically influencing everyone who came after.
Perhaps when the new set of DVDs comes out, it will be a huge success like Singin' in the Rain or Citizen Kane, and then I will be satisfied that Chaplin is very much still with us.
