Does anyone make placards/category dividers
for DVD collections?

To be more specific....

Heavy plastic dividers that come with letters
to write either STUDIO or GENRE, used to properly
categorize your collection.

I am sure you know what I am talking of -- you
see them in video or music stores all the time.

Would love to get a dozen of these dividers so
I can easily categorize my collection and see
the divides from across the room.

Anyone knows who makes these things?

Thanks in advance!

I just use a laser printer and the heaviest cardstock the printer can accommodate. I like a large tab, so I have enough room to put:

(because Lolita and Dr. S are filed with the K-man's other films)

MM Designs International makes plastic dividers that are slightly larger than DVD cases. They come labeled alphabetically or blank with a choice of 96 pre-printed category labels. However, if you use a bookshelf-type storage method, in which the spines face out, this may not be ideal. You probably want something thicker so the labels can be read easily.

One solution would be to buy cheap DVD cases as dividers, and use something like the Dymo Letra Tag label maker with one of the colored label styles so that they'll stand out better. However, this may take up too much precious space.

Brian,

Thanks for this info.

Unfortunately for this method, my DVDs are on
shelves, spine facing out.

I do like the idea about the DVD cases and Dymo
labeler. I will look into that. Thank You.

Ron: I just stumbled across THESE from a place called Bags Unlimited. They are meant to be used in DVD/CD storage boxes...but seem like they would also work on shelves.

Bags Unlimited was just mentioned in the neighboring thread on ThinPaks in this forum.

Actually just found these (starting with Mike's link): http://www.bagsunlimited.com/cart/detail.asp?cat=465&subcat=247&product_id=ddvdg

Like Ron I want then to stick out not up, but if I trim 2.5 inches from the bottom and rotate them they will fit perfectly.

Know what's weird? When this thread was revived, it did NOT show up in my list of subscribed threads. I wonder, Adam, if the same might be true for Ron.

This did not come up in my subscribed threads.

Know what I ended up doing?

I simply took old DVD cases. Removed the covers.
Put them on their side and labeled them using a Brother
P-Touch (Black on Red label). Looks fantastic.

Here is a photo...

Hey Ron
Taking a look at the subscription issue right now... you were explicitly subscribed to this thread?

I'm not Ron, Benjamin. But I was subscribed to it.

I automatically subscribe to any thread in which I post. And when this thread was revived, it did not show up on my Personalized Home Page. It does now and has ever since I have posted in it again since the revival.

Hard to say if I was subscribed or not. Been 5 years since
the thread was started. However, out of general practice, I
subscribe to any thread that I start so most likely I was.

Received no notifications. Found this by accident.

That was the point of my original mention of the issue, Adam.

I see it just fine now too. But when you first "revived" the thread on October 9th, it did NOT show up in my "Stuff I Care About" list--which it should have. After I posted in it after you revived it, it showed up as it's supposed to.

Although I didn't buy divider cards there (but empty HD DVD and Blu-ray cases), I found SquareDealsOnline to be a very decent company, and they do have lots of dividers, both for DVD and CD.

(The link I provide above was created using the key word 'divider' for a search from their home page. I'm not sure the search will be copied properly to this post though.

Edit: No it doesn't. Please enter the word divider into the search field on th page you get from the first link.)
