Yes, and that's especially true of titles they released on laserdisc back in they day - such as Carnal Knowledge.

I caught a bit of the film on TCM the other day, refreshing my memories of a viewing or two many years ago, and it does have a sort of 'clinical' feeling at times particularly due to the measured line readings (at times) by the actors. Of course, I don't know if this is what you are referring to, but if so then I (sorta) agree.

I enjoyed the revisit, but it does seem to place some distance between the viewer and the characters that inhabit the film, at least for me.
