I loved Casino Royale and Skyfall. Quantum of Solace and Spectre weren't awful but were completely unmemorable.

As for Bourne, the initial trilogy is fantastic and that's all they needed. I haven't bothered with the other two.

I do think that the Mission Impossible series has been far more consistently enjoyable than Bond since Craig's tenure began the same year as Mission Impossible III.

According to this report Danny Boyle left over a casting disagreement over the Russian villain.

On Tuesday evening James Bond producers and Craig announced that Boyle had left Bond 25 over “creative differences.”
And now a source has revealed the director’s decision to leave was over whether to cast Tomasz Kot as the Bond villain.
The Polish actor stars in Cold War, which is released later this month, however it’s believed Craig felt his casting was too “left-field”.
Bond 25 was supposed to focus on a “modern-day Cold War” with Russia, while being consciously post-MeToo era.

The insider told the Telegraph “Craig has a big say in all the casting decisions. None of the Bond girls have been chosen without his say so, “For example he chose Eva Green to be the Bond girl when it came to the final four for Casino Royale and that has been the case for all the Bond girls he has worked with"

I'm glad Boyle is out, good director, but all wrong for this franchise.

Seriously bummed that Danny Boyle won't be directing Craig's swan song as Bond. I also agree with the rest of you that Purvis and Wade couldn't write their way out of a paper sack. But the fact that Broccoli and Wilson are unwilling to budge off of that unrealistic release date takes the cake. Get ready for another subpar Bond adventure everyone. #25 to boot. Just sucks.

I don't know what to believe regarding this current development. I've been reading all sorts of reports (or theories, who knows which) over the last couple days when Boyle's exit was first announced. Who knows what Eon is actually doing and how prepared they are at this very moment. Of course I want a great Bond movie, but I don't see it as a foregone conclusion that it will 100% be a "rushed" movie and will suck if they keep on track and get it out by next fall. We shall see when the final product hits theaters, and I'll be excited until then.

I think that's probably because even the producers don't know what they're doing yet. Until yesterday, their plan was for Danny Boyle to direct the film starting in December. I don't think they've figured out what to do next yet, because there was no reason for them to have a "backup plan" for his departure. Everyone entered into this with the intention that he was going to do it, and now it's perfectly reasonable for them to need some time to reggroup. I think we should sit tight and let them figure it out.

Maintaining the date on the calendar (for now) is the best course of action. That way, they have the option of releasing it on that date *if* the pieces come together in time for them to make the date. If they don't, it can always be officially delayed later. If they were to officially delay it now, and then things cam together and they wanted the old date back, that might be hard to do. If they move it, another studio will probably lay claim to that date for a major movie instead. So they gain nothing by making the delay official until they've 100% committed to the idea that they're not going to use the original date.

I know we all like knowing when things are coming out and what's going on. I do too. But I think we just need to cool our heels and let them take their time to figure this out, and when they have something to announce, they will.

I've no idea if it's true, but one of the rumors I've read was that Doyle walked away "a while ago" and that they only announced this the other day. Also read Eon is actually in the habit of having back up plans ahead of time just in case. But no matter the truth, all we can do is sit and wait. I'm hoping for the best.

As far as Doyle himself, I'm not particularly familiar with his work. I think he did 28 Days Later, but don't think I've seen anything else from him, so I had no attachment to him.

You're correct. Danny Boyle did direct 28 Days Later. He also directed the Best Picture winner Slumdog Millionaire and Best Picture nominee 127 Hours, well as Trainspotting and the very underapprciated Steve Jobs. You haven't seen either of his Oscar films?

I HAVE seen Slumdog Millionaire and liked it. If his Jobs movie was the one with Fassbender rather than Kutcher then I saw it, but really only liked it for Fassbender's performance. I always wanted to see 127 Hours, but it's slipped through the cracks over the years.

It is. The Kutcher one is just "Jobs," whereas Boyle's with Fassbender is "Steve Jobs."

It's very much worth a rental. James Franco is incredible in it, but I think the aggressive score from A.R. Rahman was misplaced and detracted from the film as a whole. Rahman did a great job on the score for Slumdog, but 127 Hours is a different kind of movie, and silence would have been more appropriate. (You're supposed to feel trapped with Franco for most of the movie, but there's lots of underscore, which makes you know you're watching a movie and took me out of it; mimicking the silence he actually would have heard while trapped would have been a much more effective choice.)

Craig has been a poor Bond and the fact that he is the producers choice for the next film shows that until the producers step away, the films will carry on the old, tired formula. I know it's a big money making machine but a long break is needed.
