I'm getting a Sanyo XP21N and want to get an electric Grayhawk 120" screen in an 18' room. Given that I'll want to see both 3:4 and 16:9 images and the projector can zoom, what's the best distance to build the ceiling mount from the screen?

I'd like to enclose the projector entirely (for looks and noise reduction) with maybe a glass aperture for the lens to shoot thru and venting with a fan from the attic above. Any suggestions on the construction? I'd like it to be as high as possible but my top of screen will be at least 16" from the ceiling (in an archway).

Hi Terry,

I have a Sony front projector and the

manual that came with it had the mathematical

formula for projector distance in relation to

screen size. If you haven't taken delivery

of your projector yet, and want to get started

on building your enclosure, try getting the

projectors manual or a copy of the page that

gives you the installation directions.

As far as noise goes my Sony is a huge mother and

it sits just a few feet directly over my head when

I'm in the "money chair" and I hardly notice the

fan noise while watching a film. It is very noticeable

BEFORE the film starts. As far as your enclosure

goes, all I can suggest keep the unit cool as these

things get very warm and heat is murder on delicate

circuit boards.

Enjoy your new baby, mine is the best $$$ I ever

spent.
