The excitement has died down a bit, but I still quite enjoy them. We need to come up with some NEW topics.

Easier said than done, I know!

The tourneys will most likely wax and wane. New invigorating ideas are hard to come by, but people seem to all the time. I personally like the tourneys because they give me so many new ideas on what DVD's to rent or purchase. I just couldn't go back now to seeing what's new this week at Hollywood and being satisfied. In that I'm kind of new to DVD (November, 2001), if I hadn't been reading the tourneys, I probably wouldn't even know any difference between Criterion and the releases of other companies, wouldn't have known The Passion of Joan of Arc existed, would have never heard of many of the films being bantered about, etc. I've really used it as a guide and tried to learn which posters have tastes most similar to my own.

See, I have to review this board every single friggin' day. And I feel as if I am in a strange new land where the language is even stranger. I am but an observer on the board I am charged to maintain. What an existential experience. Well, whatever makes you happy! :)

Well I seem to be in the minority here...but...YES I am sick to death of "tournaments". I very much prefer standard opinions in polls and the welcome discussion it brings. Tournaments (by their very nature) and their "landlords" tend to discourage discussion of the opinions presented over the simple aggressive process of elimination....that would of course be the definition of a tournament...but personally I (most of the time anyway) prefer to share & debate opinions on film rather then just demonstrate the pack mentality of popular opinion.
But that's just me.

Actually, most seem to encourage relevant discussion whenever possible. In fact, without the discussions I'd probably be sick of the tournaments too.

FYI: Just in case anybody is wondering or is a little nervous--nothing's gonna happen to your precious tournaments. They are remaining. Enjoy!

Entirely incorrect, I'm afraid.
We do encourage discussion and discussion does take place.
Perhaps before making statements like this, you should take a few minutes to actually have a look inside one of the threads you are criticizing.

I know the outcomes of all tournaments!
-Your favorite word substitute for Penis Tournament
The pudge-a-nator.
And since when did regular polls become the place where tons of discussion took place? I know I try to force conversation out of people.
Here's a deal: you make normal polls as fun as tournaments, and you'll see tournaments go the wayside. How do you do this? Well you innovate the poll form, making it tighter, giving it some progression....oh wait, that's called a tournament!

Guys, we REALLY need a poll asking how many DVDs you have. We all know that has never been asked before. ;)

Hang on there Rain I Have joined in on these tournaments and and, from what I have seen, discussion is not encouraged once a film (or whatever) is eliminated.
Perhaps you should not so quickly condescend to someone based on an assumption.

Firstly, I apologize if you felt I was condescending. That wasn't my intent.
I'm not sure which tournaments you have been participating in, but I've always encouraged discussion and have noticed many others doing the same.
I just don't know where you are getting the opposite impression.

Hey I'm not saying that you guys should not have them, I just said that I am sick of them & offered my reasons why. In most of the tournaments I have looked at further discussion is discouraged once a film (or whatever) is eliminated from the running, sure that is the nature of a tournament but that is also why I dislike them, process of elimination based on popular opinion using films/art isn't really something that I dig.
You guys are more then welcome to go ahead with them (hell I wouldn't stop them if I could, why would I want to?) but the question was
Are you Tournamented out yet?
and my answer was...yep.
Sorry if my opinion goes against the grain, but there you go.
