Just bought the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King DVD.

Mine is the Academy Award quote on the front lower bottom.

Online stores show the movie review quote on the bottom of the front cover.

Has anybody bought or seen the review quote cover version?

Mine doesn't have a bunch of Oscar quotes...just the goofy Jeffrey Lyons text.

I hate Oscar blurbs on DVDs anyway, like on Schindler's List and Oliver and A Beautiful Mind. I find them tacky.

Yes there certainly are

ROTK 'Oscar'

ROTK 'Critic'

From what I've gathered, stores that sell 'oscar': Best Buy, Target, Circuit City

Stores sell the 'critic' version: Wal-Mart, Toys 'R Us, EB, Suncoast

Not a real biggie but I certainly would not doubt many here are anal enough to seek out one or the other. Hopefully the above 'guide' is helpful.

Although the oscar cover is less consistant with the previous two TE covers I like it a lot better. I really don't care what Lyons thinks of ROTK.

My local Target had both. I don't think there's a rhyme or reason to it.

The covers for the TE's in Australia are all clear amarays. Makes me glad I imported the R1 versions for all three TE's from the US and got the green/red/blue ones. They look really cool together on the shelf.

Also, the covers for EE's here in Australia don't have the distressed leather look opting for a cheaper matte finish. My brother was really annoyed when he saw my US R1 versions..

Chazz MUST be joking, right?
Were talking of a title (It's ONE, pun intended, movie too me) that fans will end up with, like, 19 disc's or more!!!
You REALLY think, they will not want BOTH covers???

My brother has the R4 Australian versions, FotR and TTT are in the coloured cases and RotK is in a clear amaray. The R4 cover also has a goof for the rating it says "Medium Level Violence and Low Level Violence".

The R4 Australian covers for all 3 films come in either coloured or clear Amarays.

I've seen blue ROTK, red/brown TTT and green FOTR cases all over the place.

Chris, you sacrificed the extra resolution of PAL to get coloured cases?

You didn't need to.

He also sacrificed the extra 4% running speed, so it's a draw if you ask me.

Yea, the colored cases *are* cool and this is the main reason that I've bought all the TEs new.

Ordinarily, I buy movies later as ex-rentals from Hollywood Video.

But, I have to say that the RoK set is the *least* attractive.

The blue case doesn't match the greenish insert one bit, unlike FoR and TT cases.

You never know.

I laughed my a$$ off looking at the prices of all the LoR junk you can buy in that catalog.

I almost busted out a calculator to add it up, you could spend thousands....and someone probably is.

Could it be that some were printed before the Oscars? I got the Critic one from Walmart, but it also had a sticker on the shrinkwrap about the Oscar wins.

I see TT:TV in a brown case here in the U.S..
Is that the 'original'?

No "error", Chazz!
Just when I read it, I'm thinking; Forgive him as he knows not which he speak's!;-)

NO!
That's what makes it FUN!!!
Unfortunately, I can see where 'some' will get WAY too serious about this!

My two cent's; I like the 'critic' cover!
