I have a JVC XV-S500BK progressive scan dvd.

I'm noticing that I'm missing part of the sides of my normal frame, but when I zoom out then I see what I'm missing.
Maybe a better explaination is that when it's not in zoom mode the frame appears to be somewhat zoomed in cutting off some of the sides.

Could this be caused by a firmware problem or is it hardware?

I'm assuming this symptom is called "pixel cropping", correct?
Oh, this is being viewed on non-progressive scan and that the tv has about 3% overscan on the sides.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Just checked it.
Avia's overscan pattern shows my normal 3% side overscan. 4:3 seems untouched but when I check the Avia's letterbox geometry patterns the loss shows up. It chops off from 1/4 to 1/2 of the vertical set of boxes bordering on each side, but I'm able to see the 5% edge markers. I guess this is normal behavior then.

Sorry to bother ya'll.
Thanks for responding Mr. Wong.
